The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Decided to wait til next week to start shirt work on Monday. I had just shirt benched on Thursday and didn't want to start off the training cycle by messing myself up. I didn't go too crazy on anything today, but all the lifts felt pretty good. I was happiest with the shoulder presses because I was able to do them without pain. I will keep those in and bump them up slowly to hopefully bring up my weak shoulders.

    Wednesday I will box squat/deadlift.

My lockout sucks, but thanks for trying to make me feel good.

Yesterdays SQ/DL session sucked. My hips and back were still feeling beat up from the heavy reverse band day. I cut the box squatting short because my hips hurt too much. Then I decided to try and pull a heavy raw conventional deadlift, but my back was shot. I hit 495, but I was so rounded from the start that it was very slow. I basically shut it down after that and just helped spot some benching. I'll have to see how I feel on Saturday to decide what I'll do for squatting. Today I benched, went much better.

Felt much better today after yesterday's crap session. I trained by myself again today, so I didn't take any benching sets to close to failure. I was just happy to get through another workout without shoulder pain. All the pressing felt fine and I'm starting to increase the poundages slowly. Hopefully I'll be able to train with a buddy on this day so I can push them up some more.

BWT- 168.5(after training) I want to gain another 6-8 lbs this training cycle.

Had a good session today. My hip was still killing me, but the support of the suit made all the difference in the world. I made sure to take all those squats deep and they all felt real good. I still suck at walk-outs, but luckily I found two friends in the gym to spot me on the 425 set. The down set after was very easy, but the bar slipped all over the place so I decided 8 would be enough. The rack pulls went better than I expected since my back felt like crap on Wednesday.

Next week I think I will do a SQ/DL assistance day on Tuesday and then hopefully get a chance to squat heavy on Friday(we are running @ East End Barbell on Saturday. I'd like to put the Ace suit on and see how it feels.

That was it. Today was supposed to be my shirt day, but I had to get to the gym earlier than the other guys. I decided to just do my raw day today and shirt later in the week. Pete showed up with bands, so I did some volume triples with those. That is a lot of tension for little ole me. I'd like to use some tension like that in the shirt off of some boards later in the week if possible. We'll see.

I'll do some SQ/DL assistance manana.

I tried a few different things today. I think I'll be experimenting with a few different things on this day for the next few weeks. I really just want to hammer some different exercises to bring up some weak points in my deadlift. My back was absolutely smoked after those snatch-grip pulls. After that I couldn't do much else because my back was cramping up like crazy. That's why I didn't do any heavy rowing today.

I hope to shirt bench on Thursday and squat on Friday.

Benched by myself again tonight. Next week I'll make sure I get back in the shirt. I got some decent volume in tonight, but didn't get too crazy with no liftoff and no spotter.

Tomorrow I will squat, but I am not sure where or in what gear.

At this point it was close to 10:30 at night and my good buddy John Bernor said "why don't you do the meet tomorrow CR". With little thought about how dumb that would be, I said sure. I trained 4 days already this week and I don't believe I have ever tried to squat heavy 12 hours after my last squat session, but what's the worse that could happen?

    3/15
East End Barbell SSA Full Power Meet

    Squat

    600-miss(fell back at the bottom)
600-miss(fell back as I locked out)
655-miss(fell back as I locked out)

That's how you bomb out, lol. I blame big Tone Barbaccio. He is so large, that I believe his gravitational pull was pulling me back from his back spotting. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Things felt terrible warming up, so I decided to just use the Ace suit with no briefs. For the last attempt of 655, I slid some single ply briefs on under it, but I fell back on that one too. Oh well, I wasn't expecting much. I didn't bench, but then decided to pull since I never did on Friday night.

    Deadlifts

    500-good(easy)
    530-good(easy)
560-miss(I was killing this and my hand just opened up and I lost it/very gay)

I was very pissed I lost the grip on that deadlift, but very happy with my technique and strength. 560 was about to be dominated, but I guess I didn't squeeze the freaking bar hard enough because my hand just totally opened up while I was excelerating passed the knees.

I weighed in heavy after breakfast @ 172. I would like to put on a few more lbs and drop the 8-10 lbs of water to make 165 for the next meet. Plus, I'll be well rested and ready to go.

    Shirt Bench

    Bench press

    95x5
    135x3
    185x1

    *add 4-board*

    225x3
    265x1

    *Add Phenom/no boards*

    295x3(groove felt horrible)

    *switch to other Phenom*

    315x3(touched third rep)
    335x3(touched last 2 reps)
    355x3(PR triple/touched last 2 reps)

I'm very pleased with tonight's session. I had some low expectations coming in since I hadn't shirt benched in like 3 weeks and I was still kinda beat up from Saturday. The first Phenom I put on is just too damn tight in the chest and I can't setup properly in it. The groove felt horrible, so I switched to the other shirt. This shirt is tighter in the arms, but looser in the chest. It seems to be better suited for my build. All the triples in that shirt were very smooth. Even the 355 set was smooth and strong. I think next time I should definitely be able to bump the weight and make all the triples. Next week, however, I am going to use bands off of boards to really overload the top. Then the following week I'll come back to full range triples. I'm gonna keep all the assistance work to the raw day(Thursday).

I'll be doing them in the shirt so I can really overload with maximum weights and the shirt will still give me the shoulder support I need to not totally tear me apart.

I love bands with 3 board work but have never tried them in my shirt. Interesting idea.

Good session. I worked hard today, but didn't take anything to the limit. I liked this session, but I'm still not sure if I'll stick with these exercises. I did however, like the zerchers to start. I had to go narrower on them than I normally do because my hip was not happy with me. This really seemed to make my glutes work hard, which I believe is a weakness of mine.

Thursday raw bench, Friday SQ/DL and then I leave for the Jersey Shore/Atlantic City for Easter weekend with family.

    Bench assistance

As per Mr. Bernor, who's a pretty strong fella, I started up my raw cycle today with high reps. I'm gonna bump the weight each week leading into the meet and the reps will come down some. Since I'm going to be focusing hard on the shirt work, doing heavy raw the same week will likely beat me up too much. Including this week, I have 8 weeks of training for the meet I want to do.

    Bench press(pinky on rings)

    95x5
    95x5
    135x3
    135x25(rep PR)
    135x21

    Pec deck

    2 sets of 12

    Seated BB Shoulder Press

    80x6
    80x20

    DB laterals

    2 sets of 12

    Skull crushers

    2 sets of 10, 1 set of 8

    Curls

    2 sets of 8, 1 set of 6

    Tricep pushdowns

    1 set of 20

Felt pretty good to go back to high reps. My shoulders felt good though the whole session and although the weight I used on shoulder presses was gay, it didn't give me pain. That was the first time I have been able to use the straight bar for those without pain in a while.

On a side note, my lower back is ridiculously sore/pumped from Tuesday's session. I literally can't drive for more than like 5 minutes without being extremely uncomfortable. It didn't bother me during training tonight, but I'm not sure how squatting or pulling will feel tomorrow. Not to mention that I have to drive 3 hours+ tomorrow night after training. Should be fun.

sweet benching and all around work today chris! funny that your 135 PR is 25 (which is good) and mine is like 31 but you obviously can press alot more than me!

hope ur back gets better. remember lower back is extremely important, and better to take a day off if you think it's gonna get injured tomorrow.

Thanks man. If you bench 280 raw, then you got me smoked. My numbers in my signature are from using a bench shirt. My bench is my weakest lift. My best raw bench is 250-255.
