The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Nothing crazy today. I trained alone and definitely felt shot coming in. The lighter/high rep session is good though, since it doesn't beat me up like the heavy stuff and I am able to bang it out fast, even when I don't feel 100%. Not sure if I'll squat tomorrow or Saturday.

Since nobody was training at East End Barbell yesterday or today, I decided to switch today to my assistance day. I felt pretty good and managed to pull a PR out of the rack with no belt. I think my back and abs are definitely getting stronger from all that heavy rack work. I plan to squat and deadlift on Tuesday night this week. Hopefully I will work up to 660 for 1 or 2 singles in full gear and then pull sumo with chains. That's the plan anyway.

    2-board press(all sets done with a doubled light/purple band)

    95x3
    135x1

    185x1
    225x3
    275x1
    315x1(PR)
    255x4(missed 5th)

I have no idea what those bands add at the top, but it definitely felt like a lot! I had the band doubled around a 150 lb DB on each side. I would like to think they added somewhere between 150-200 lbs at lockout. I was definitely please to have another good heavy bench day. Next week I will be back to straight weight and full range in the Phenom.

Also, I decided to wait until Friday to squat. Tomorrow I will probably do my back assistance again and then play some basketball.

Had a good day today despite messing up my workset on bench. On the descent after my 12th rep I slammed the hook on my way down. I had slid up the bench because of the no chalk commercial gym thing. So it basically came crashing down to my chest. My buddy was about to grab it and I told him I had it. I basically pulled my shoulders back in and pushed it up after about a 4-5 second pause at the bottom. I still managed to bang out some more reps, but I think I would have been good for 20 if I didn't hit the hook. Oh well. Maybe next week I'll be able to match the reps when I bump another 10 lbs.

PS- the H-rolls are nasty!! I had to go so damn light on them, but they light up your rear delts. I didn't feel them in the front delts at all like I thought I would.

PPS- I'm friggin huge(for me). Making 165 looks like it's gonna be a challenge. I weighed 176 after my workout in boxers. As funny as that sounds, it's the most I've ever weighed in my life.

Check the thread in the powerlifting section about George Halbert doing them. There is a video there. Sick movement.

Sid- it seems all those people were right all along. Eat more, gain weight, get stronger. It seems so simple.

    *add wraps*

    660xno rep(had to rerack it)
    660x1

We moved into yet another facility. This was my first session there. I was all excited for a big squat workout, but almost nobody from the team was there. I really wasn't sure what I'd be able to do with minimal spotting, but a few more guys showed up by the time I was up to the top weights, so I was able to feel safe going heavy. I'm not sure if it was from the weight gain, the floor or what, but I felt very forward durig all my squats. I was having a hard time getting back on my heels. When I started down with 660 the first time, I had to come right up after a few inches because it didn't feel right. I took it again a few minutes later and managed to hit the rep, but I still felt a little funny. When I shoved from the bottom, my hips shifted forward slightly and then I came straight up. This put a weird strain on my quad, as I guess I used them to straighten myself out. I am by no means a quad squatter, so this felt weird. I'll post the video later so you can see what I mean. I wore the straps very, very loose. In the next few weeks I will have to experiment with wearing them a little tighter.

After that I attempted to pull sumo. Someone had borrowed my T-rex that I like to pull in, so I squeezed my ass into my Ace suit which is ridiculously tight now(177 lbs yesterday). It was nearly impossible to get into position and my pulling sucked. I couldn't even pull 5 plates, which usually is very fast and easy. I was totally shot then, so I skiped assistance work.

Not a good night by any means, but I guess when I can squat 660 on a "bad" night, things could be a lot worse.

I really didn't feel great warming up today. My plan was to go up to an opener-ish weight and do a few singles with it. When I took 375 out, it felt like my wrist was gonna snap. I reracked it right away and tried to take it out again, but it didn't feel right. I rested while everyone else did an attempt and then I came back and just jumped it up to 385. This time I had a much better wrist wrap and we even adjusted the uprights up one notch. Both singles with 385 felt great in my hands and both touched and went up smooth. As long as I feel good and bloated on meet day, I should be able to start with ~375 for an easy opener.

    175x17(PR)

    Incline DB press

    50'sx6
    65'sx3
    75'sx10(might have been 11, I didn't count too well)

    Flat DB press

    50'sx30

    Incline Tate press

    2 sets of 10, 1 set of 8

    Barbell Curls

    3 sets of 8

    Tricep pushdowns

    1 set of 20

    Hammer curls

    1 set of 20

    H-Rolls

    4 sets of 12

Nothing special today. I did like a million reps. Shoulder was acting up a little, so I decided to only do 1 set of inclines. The flat DB felt better, of course it was real light. I'm not sure when I'll squat. Either tomorrow or Saturday, but my hamstrings are sore as hell right now from Tuesday's SLDL.

I was too lazy/shot to do anything else. I was very happy with the big PR's though. I can't remember my PR in briefs/wraps, but I think it was in the 550-575 range. I was planning on opening up with ~635 at this meet, but now I am not sure. If I can hit that without the suit on, I may have to bump it up a bit. It all depends on how I feel after dropping all the water weight and then bloating back up. That is definitely the tightest those briefs have ever felt. Hopefully I don't gain any more weight between now and the meet.
