The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I have the next three squat sessions to figure that out. Probably whatever I feel I can definitely make depth with, and still come up with like it's 4 plates. I feel I need to come out and own an opener for once, since I have the tendency to bomb.

    Heavy Bench

No shirt work today and lifted in the commercial gym I go to.

Bench press(pinky on rings and thumbless all sets)

    95x5
    95x3
    135x3
    135x1
    185x1
    225x1
    245x1
    265xmiss(shoulders slid on bench)
    225x4

    Floor press(same grip)

    135x3
    185x3
    225x2
245x1(either a PR or matched it)

    Rolling DB ext

    3 sets of 10

    H-rolls

    1 set of 15, 2 sets of 12

I was supposed to skip this day altogether and go out to dinner with my whole family, but the plans got cancelled. I decided to just stay out of the shirt and do some extra raw stuff. I haven't tried the thumbless/suicide grip in like 5 years. I have to say it feels great on the raw stuff. I would/will never use it in a shirt, but I will likely use it on and off for raw work. I think I am definitely good for a raw PR single right now, but I was sliding all over that bench. I need chalk on my back when I go heavy raw because right when I drive out of the bottom I slide towards the uprights. I may work up a little raw one of my next shirt sessions to see if I can go 265+.

Felt pretty good today. I definitely feel like I need to get my conditioning up though. My body is definitely not used to being this "heavy". I weighed 178 after this session. I just feel myself getting winded quicker than normal, even during everyday activities. I just don't know if it would be better to keep things as they are for a few more week until the meet and then worry about it, or if I should try and do some form of cardio/dragging now to help. Definitely after the meet it will be something I address.

On the top set of SLDL, I did the first rep with some leg drive(conventional) and then did the next 4 reps in stiff-legged fashion. Going that heavy off the floor stiff-legged gets real ugly for me, so this seemed to do the trick.

Nothing too crazy today. I kinda wussed out on the bench workset since I had slid a bit on the bench and didn't have a spotter. I didn't want to smack the bar into the hooks if I slid back further. I was happy that I was able to handle the 100's on DB press. I haven't tried to go that heavy since my shoulders had been acting up and they felt strong today. I believe that matched my best set with the 100's.

    Hopefully tomorrow I will squat.

    Thanks guys.

I had a very frustrating squat workout Friday night. Basically, my gear is not fitting right now that I am ginormous, so I was trying to squat with purple/numb legs the whole night and it wasn't working. After some horrible attempts in the canvas w/Ace briefs and then in a Single-ply suit w/Ace briefs, I ended up hitting 605x1 in the Ace briefs+wraps. One of my training partners let me borrow another canvas to try this week. Hopefully it will fit better in the legs, even though it is huge everywhere else. We'll see.

    365x2
    405x1

    *1-board*

    435x1(30 lb PR)

    275x3(shoulder wasn't feeling these)

    DB floor press(palms in)

    60'sx20
    60'sx20

Another good day in the shirt. I just wanted to get some heavy weight in my hands off a 1 or 2 board. 405 felt real light, so I decided to drop one board and go for a big PR. The rep was a little slow, but smooth. This is probably the first meet ever where I am looking forward to benching. I am opening with a PR(375) and jumping right to 405 for a second. If those go well, then we'll see what I'm good for.

I don't know about canvas but in the poly suits you can wet the thighs to help them stretch out better and sooner. I'm probably going to have to do that with my Ace suit. It took me the better part of 30 minutes, lots of hanging and quite a few sets before it finally set right. Once I got it up it was good but getting it over my thighs is the tough part.

Tight gear is awesome and sucks at the same time. Hopefully I'll get it right.

I wanted to do some full range deadlifts today, but I have a nasty scab on my shin that would have opened up all over the place and I didn't think the "Fitness" peeps would have liked it much. I kinda like to have heeled up shins when I go into a meet anyway, so it's not instant blood on my first warmup. It worked out well, as I pulled a nice PR. The bottom pin in that rack leaves the plates ~3-4" off the floor. This is probably not far off from what I can pull from the floor, so I was very pleased with it. After I grinded out the 495, an older gentleman came up to me and just said "that was awesome". I thought he was gonna tell me I'm gonna hurt myself doing that, lol. This is the last heavy pull before the meet. This Friday/Saturday I plan to pull sumo in full gear(if I get my suit back) just to make sure I can still get down to the bar. I will pull a few singles with 405 and that's it. Then I will be two weeks out and will probably just do some light pulls.

We'll see.

    .
Deflate mini basketballs or footballs put them in the legs and reinflate them. You should be able to get them to stretch a little.
