The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks man. I really wanted to get something heavy on my back since the weights felt heavy at the last meet. I was happy with this.

It was really a lot more like speed work. I might go for a ME Budweiser attempt this weekend, depending on how my meet goes.

Shoulders still feel tore up from squatting heavy last week. Decided not to do any overhead work. I will probably start that back up after the meet. Tomorrow I will squat and pull, but nothing too crazy. I'll save it for the meet for once.

The meet is March 7th, so one month from the day of the last meet. Plenty of time.

    2/24
    SQ/DL

    SSB box squat

    155x3
    245x3

    *add T-rex straps down/belt*

    345x2
    395x2x2 sets
    345x5

    Conventional deadlifts(raw/no belt)

    225x1
    315x1
    405x1
    455x1
    495x2(PR/tap and go)
    405x8(no tap/matches PR)

Decided to experiment with hook grip as per Bernor:

    225x1
    315x1
    405x1
455xmissx2(grip opened up a few inches off the floor)
    405x1+hold

    SLDL(raw/no belt/tap and go)

    315x5(hook grip)
    405x5(mixed grip)

Interesting night. I didn't want to squat since my shoulders are beat up. Decided the SSB would take care of that, but I didn't go too heavy. After that I felt good warming up raw and decided to try for a PR. I really can't remember my best conventional pull without a belt, but I know it was less than 5 plates. My best raw pull in a belt is 515x1 and 505x2. Since I seem to be good for much more from the floor than I can lockout, Bernor thought I should try and work the hook grip since it would shorten my lockout(being double-overhand. Up to 405 feels great, but I just couldn't squeeze 455 hard enough to hold on. I think I will definitely experiment with these next cycle and see if I can hold onto more weight. He might be onto something with that lockout.

Tomorrow I'll do some upper back stuff if I can move.

wow... that's a lot of back volume. Nice job with the 5 plates for 2. How do you feel pulling without the belt helps? Hook grip is pretty nasty. I think my PR with it is lik 315, and I couldn't stand it. lol

Thanks man. I figure if I can get myself pulling more without a belt, it should carryover into pulling more in a belt. My abs were working extra hard to keep me tight. The hook grip was a bit painful, but I was pleased to hit 4 plates the first time trying it. I think it would definitely take a lot of work to be able to hold 550-600 that way. I guess we'll see if I stick with it.

    Thanks fellas.

So today I pretty much talked myself out of doing the meet next week. I am just not prepared to put up the numbers I want and I'd rather just train for now than beat myself into the ground with another meet. So for now the plan will likely be to judge at the meet....so I should be throwing plenty of reds, lol.

My close grip and my comp grip are almost the same. I don't know what that means, but they are both weak and gay. I'll just have to try and make everything stronger.

    Good work Chris.

I have one question for you. I know you do tons of pulling, so what stuff do you for recovery? Food, sleep, and contrast shower just don't seem enough for me and I feel like I should be doing something more.

Haha, I make sure to get hammered drunk once per week. I really don't do anything. I mean I eat, drink plenty of Nitrean and have been taking ETS for the past few months. I don't sleep enough during the week and then I oversleep on the weekends. One thing I guess that helps is that I am on my feet movin around at work. I don't sit in a chair and stiffen up. Maybe I'mk just used to the abuse?

I think I am going to switch up my training days a bit starting next week. Going to decide if I want to do the Asylum meet in April and then figure something out. Today my back was getting wicked pumped and sore again and I should have stopped right after my first warmup, but of course I kept going. Worked up to 315 conv and sumo w/ hook grip. Then worked up to 455x1 conv Double overhand w/straps and 405x3 double overhand w/straps sumo(horribly crappy gym bar w/no chalk). My back was cranked so I didn't want to push it past that. Did some chins, face pulls and ab pulldowns and got out of there. By Monday I will have my new plans figured out.

I did not expect that one, but that's actually a really good answer. It's just that I have school from Monday to Thursday and I don't get home until 6pm. It really kills me and my lower back just to sit there listening to boring lectures one after another... wish I was allowed to take notes while standing up.
