The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Haha, that would be funy if you were the only one standing and just periodically lifted your desk over your head and banged out a few reps to keep loose.

Decided I am not going to compete until the summer. I am going to attempt to get strong for once(of course, I could change my mind about 75 times between now and June, so who knows). I have written out a raw bench cycle to try and get my pathetic bench up a bit. I have tentative ideas about my SQ/DL work which I have not completely hammered out yet. I'll work on that more tonight. So, today I started my bench cycle and my damn gym was closed from all the snow. It took like an hour to get my car dug out and I was furious. Called Gold's gym and they were open so I went there. I think I am going to join there soon anyway, much better atmosphere.

    3/2
    CR bench cycle/Week 1 Day 1

    Bench press

    135x5
    175x10x2 sets

    OH press(strict)

    95x5
    115x10x2 sets

V-bar Pushdowns(these cables are real light)

    130x12
    150x12

    Rear delt laterals

    3 sets of 12

    Rotators

    3 sets of 12

I will be benching twice per week. I have the whole cycle written out. Today is the lighter day, Thursday will be heavier. Tomorrow I will squat in gear and then do some speed pulls sumo w/chains. I will also be trying to put on a few lbs to fill out the 181's. Hopefully I will be up to 187-188ish in a few months.

Cool idea to hold off on the meets for awhile. That was really close to that last one. I've got sorta the same plan goin' on. Working raw strength. I want to get around 205 for the 98s as well. Good luck with your cycle.

Hopefully the better atmosphere includes more eye candy.

Are you going to post your entire training program? Weight gain always seems like the best idea to get raw strength up lol.

Yea, I just didn't have the fire in me that I usually have going into a meet and I want to be bigger and stronger the next time I step on the platform.

It's the local Gold's by me. I think they call it South Shore Gold's in Ronkonkoma. I used to go there a few years back. I have some friends who lift there and supposedly some guys interested in powerlifting lift there.

Well, I hand wrote it. It would be a lot of typing to put it here, haha. It's pretty basic. I just made it 8 weeks long, progressive overload style. On Mondays I will do sets of 10 and just bump 5 lbs a week(should be easy through the 8 weeks). Thursday I will start at 5's and work down to a heavy single the last week. I will throw in some top end work on Thursday as a second movement, but nothing ridiculous. I just want to make sure that weights don't feel too heavy in my hands when I transition back into heavy shirt work in 8 weeks.

Thanks man. I think if I put on 30 lbs of bodyweight I might be able to bench as much as you, lol.

Leaving in a few to go do some squatting/speed pulling.

Are pulls are like the same you freak. What part of NY are you from?

    3/3
    SQ/DL

    Squat

    145x3
    235x2

*add single-ply Fusion briefs/Metal Ace squatter straps up*

    395x1

    *add belt*

    525x1
605x3(all felt about a mile high/suit is too damn tight)

Sumo deadlifts(single-ply Fusion briefs/T-rex straps up/Hook grip all sets)

    315x1

    *add belt*

    405x1
    435x1
    365+5 Chainsx1x2 sets
    365+7 Chainsx1

    GHR

    BWx15x3 sets

The squats felt like crap. The suit is so damn tight and bites so hard I felt like I wasn't going anywhere. Plus, the weights feel heavier out of the rack compared to when I am in the canvas. I am either going to have to stretch that suit out or trade it for 1 size bigger. The deadlifts, however, felt great. It was my first time trying hook grip for sumo and it felt better than conventional. I think I will keep trying to work those up through the training cycle and see if I can hang onto something heavy. It really shortens my ROM down being double overhand like that. All the sets were fast and easy. We got the very last pull with the chains on video so if my buddy Domingo posts it you can see how the form looks.

I've seen you pull +500 many times, and they all looked WAY faster than mine. I used to live in Rochester a long time ago but now I live in Rockland County in Westchester (I really don't like this place) I don't think it's that far from Long Island. It'd be sweet if I could go down there and see what a powerlifting gym is really like. I lift by myself at a local community center so I do get lonely sometimes. Good thing at least they have a squat rack+bench press, and plenty of plates for me to use.

    Oh, and great work!

It would be a bit of a trip for you since we train on the East end of the Island, but it would be worth it if you could make the trip some day. Or even if you could travel up to one of the Asylum meets to check out an awesome meet.

Nice work! I've read your log for a while now, just never posted before. I like how you always pull heavy, because I like to also and I hate reading about pulling heavy every other week. Keep up the good work and check out my log if you get a chance.

Wow dude. Everything looked like hell on the body in that workout. Nice work! And I'm glad your hook grip is coming along, btw.

Paint the meet red tomorrow for sure...
