The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Haha, thanks. Pulling hevay all the time isn't always the smartest thing...but it sure is fun.

is the hook grip just meant to help with holding on to the weight? seems like it would be a good thing for you since you always seem to lose your grip at the top.

    oh, btw...destroyed 525 deadlift today

Well, since you pull double overhand with it, it shortens your ROM and is safer for the biceps. Good job on that pull.

    3/9
    CR bench cycle/ Day 1 Week 2

    Bench press

    135x3
    180x10x2 sets
    135x25

    Seated DB press(no back support)

    40'sx8
    50'sx10
    50'sx10(standing)

    Pushdowns

    2 sets of 12

    Rear delt raises

    3 sets of 10-12

    Rotators

    4 sets of 12-15

The bench sets felt real easy today(as they should). I definitely left plenty of reps in the tank. I tried some DB presses for shoulders since I hadn't been able to do those without pain in some time. They felt real good today so I will probably alternate those with BB presses. Tomorrow will be some SQ/DL work with more hook grip sumo.

It's good for a lighter day and you can bang it out pretty quick.

    3/10
    SQ/DL

    Squat(raw/no belt/knee sleeves)

    135x3x2 sets
    225x3

    Sumo deadlifts(hook grip)

    135x1

    445x(no go)

    *over/under*

    445x1
    515x1(missed 2nd/came forward)

This annoyed me because it just felt way off and I was way forward on both sets. So I pulled conventional raw.

    Conventional deadlift(raw/hook grip)

    315x1x2 sets
    365x1x2 sets

Interesting night. Our monolift wasn't put back together since using it at the meet and none of us had the motivation or the tools to do so. I just got a pair of APT knee sleeves and wanted to see how they felt squatting. So I started working up raw with the Bus Driver and they felt pretty good. I put 300 on and figured I'd do another triple, but I just kept banging reps out. It was the best my raw form/strength has felt in a long time. It was completely unexpected. My feet were actually slipping out a bit during the set so after the 8th rep I tried to readjust. I started down with the 9th, but it felt off on my back and I came up without going down all the way. I think with better traction on the floor I could have hit 10-12. My best ever rep squat with no belt is 275x9. I might actually be doing some raw squatting this cycle so maybe I can get that up to some decent numbers.

Hook grip FTW! I think I didn't have it set right when I went to pull 445 sumo because it wouldn't budge off the floor. The conventiomnal sets felt great though. I can't wait to try it in the suit. It is so much slower off the floor than I am used to, but it speeds up from the knee up and that is where I need it. If the suit can help pop me off the floor a bit faster, than I won't have to hold on as long. Either way, I just hit within 30 lbs of my all-time belt only PR and it's only like my third week trying it. I think Bernor might be right about something in my training for once.

Nice job Chris! I like the one with chains. I probably wouldn't even have gotten halfway with my short arms. That was a short and sweet pull.

Oh and you in the videos kinda remind of Pyrros Dimas from Athens 2004. I don't know why but I always get that feeling when I watch your videos.

wow man. Nice job with the hooks! That lockout looked nasty with the sumo pull. Speed from the floor was good too. Maybe once you get more used to it you'll be able to explode more off the floor like your used to.

Yea, the good thing about the hook grip is it shortens the ROM a bit.

Thanks man. I think I am going to try and do a lot of volume with moderate weights(speed-ish) so I can work on that. Plus, I will test it out in the suit conventional to see if it makes me quicker out of the bottom.

That's so awesome... Usually when my legs get sore like that it take two days for the soreness to really set in. Lenny feels the same way. The worst is getting on and off the bowl in that condition.

My left wrist was acting up all day at work doing next to nothing. With a tight wrap it didn't bother me too much on my worksets, but I decided not to do any crazy overload stuff for my second movement. I had planned to go out to EEBB and do some shirt reps as a second movement, but I'll start that up another week. From here on out in this cycle, I will do my heavy days @EEBB anyway, so I don't have to lift myself off. I just did the illegal wides at the end because the locker room was closed for cleaning and I had to wait to get my keys. I don't have those as a planned movement in my bench cycle.

Tomorrow I have no idea what I will do since I can still barely walk from Tuesday's session. Maybe some rack pulls with the hook grip to get some more volume and some upper back work. We'll see.

Oh yea, BW PR today of 182!!!

I was glad that I could do anything considering I was walking around all gimpy just yesterday from being so sore. The soreness mostly went away by today. I decided that I would get a little bit extra squat work in so I can start to feel more comfortable with the groove. 315 will be my workset on Tuesday and I will bang out as many reps as I can do. Did some more hook grip work after that in the rack and squeezed out a hook grip PR of 495. I hate rack pulls from just below the knee. It is so hard to get them started, very awkward position.

Nice work Chris. I'm pretty sure if I trained as crazy as you did, I'd either be dead or 198 pounds from the volume. LOL

nice job hitting 545 even with the straps! At that position of the rack my pulls are like 30-40 lbs. less than my 1RM.
