The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Woke up feeling like hell, but started to feel better as the day went on. Still a bit weak though.

    11/9
    Lower

    Squat(raw)

    135x3x2 sets
    225x2
    275x1

    *add belt*

    315x1
    345x1

Wasn't feeling it, so I decided not to push it by doing a workset.

    Deadlifts(raw)

    135x6(3 conv/3 sumo)
    225x6(same)
    315x3(2 sumo/1 conv)
    405x1(conv)

    *add belt*

    475x1
    485x2(easy, but almost puked)

    Abs

    3 sets of 12

I guess I need some more rest and food for now. Hopefully by the end of the week I will be back close to normal. I will go by feel the rest of the week.

Felt much better today so I decided to train.

    11/12
    Upper

    Bench press(middle finger on rings)

    135x5
    185x3
    215x1
    235x1
    250x1
    265x2
    230x1(pinky 1" inside rings)
    230x1(pinky on rings)
    245x1(same)

Just messin with some narrower grips to see how they felt...still think I am strongest out wide.

    Floor press(pinky 1" inside rings)

    155x5
    205x5
    215x5
    225x5

    Lat pulldowns(semi-wide neutral grip)

    6 sets of 12(4 front, 2 BTN)

    Tricep pushdowns

    4 sets of 12-15

    Face pulls

    4 sets of 12-15

    BB curls

    25x20
    35x20
    45x15

That's right, using the big bar for curls now, lol. Felt so good to train today. I definitely think I am pretty much over what I had. I got within 5 lbs of my PR double on bench and all of the accessory work felt good...I didn't lose anything at the end of the session. So hopefully I don't wake up feeling like crap again tomorrow.

Also, I weighed myself before this session and I was a bloated 182!! This matches my all-time PR so maybe I can keep it going and work up to a chubby lil 198er, lol. We shall see.

    Deadlift

    Deadlifts(raw)

*all sets done against one set of Green(average) bands stretched across the platform*

    135x3
    225x1
    315x1

    *add belt*

    365x1
    365+40 lbs Chainx1
    385+40 lbs Chainx1(should be 600ish at lockout)

    Goodmornings w/SSB(raw)

*First set done with 1 set of Monster Minis doubled*

    Barx10(narrow)

    *bands off*

    155x10(narrow)
    155x10(arched back w/belt)

    GHR

    BWx8

Haven't even tried those in months since they were bothering my knee after squatting/pulling. Felt like my hammies and calves were gonna tear off in a bad way, lol. Had to actually raise the front a bit to do those.

    Band leg curls

    2 sets of 20 w/green band

Not too bad. Didn't feel all that great warming up, but still managed to pull a few heavy singles. The SSB GM's suck!! I can't do any kind of weight on those and my back had a wicked uncomfortable pump from my neck down through my erectors.

I think it ties my PR! The bands were just too nasty so I wanted to see how the straight weight felt. I just suck at GM's in general and even moreso with the SSB.

Felt real good today! My old PR against minis was either 200 or 205. I hit 220 with no spot or liftoff pretty strong. I don't even think there was another person in the free weigh area which is quite large, lol. If I had a spotter I think I was good for 225 or 230. Hopefully that will translate to 285-290 or so on straight weight. I was alos please to be able to do some decently heavy rows without pain in my forearm/bicep. My upper body is definitely getting strong all over so I can't wait to test my bench again. I will be over 300 finally in early 2010. About time!

My heavy set did not feel so strong today. My raw squat is weak right now, even for me. My best ever in belt+wraps is 420. About a month or so ago I hit 400x3 and since then I have not felt real strong on any heavy attempt. I will still test my 1RM next week as part of the contest, but then I have to really figure out a squat plan to get it up where I want it(over 500). From the 3 "work" sets I did squatting I was walking around like a gimp, lol. Gonna be so fo sho!!

Hey dude, thought I would drop in and give some much earned respect in your journal. Actually been following it for awhile, just haven't posted. Awesome about the bench! Huge milestone for sure. Thanks for the comments in my blog, I posted a reply as an edit to the post right after it. I still say people like you are built to deadlift. Anthropometry has to count for something.

Nice PRs on the bench Chris.
This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy - George Bernard Shaw

Thanks man. It's good to see other people's training logs who are built similar to me and see what they are doing. I have been training with 200+ lbers for a while, very few "little" guys have lifted with us consistently.

Kept it nice and light for once. Feels weird to leave the gym after a SQ/DL session and not feel like I just got my ass kicked. Next week I have school on Tuesday and Wednesday night and then Thursday is Thanksgiving. So I plan to test my squat on Monday and then I will test my bench and deadlift on Friday. Hopefully I am able to stick to that plan.

Lol, I hear ya on keeping it light, bro. I always start out with good intentions and then at some point something malfunctions in my head and I get nutty with my loads. How do you like DLing against bands? I'm gonna be cycling that into my template here shortly. Gotta get some newer bands first though.

Haha, yea that happens a lot! I think pulling against bands and/or chains is awesome. I always have hammered weights off the floor and have issues getting the hips through right at lockout. I have already improved my lockout since I started using them more regularly and I plan to keep using them often in an effort to improve it more.

I pulled that PR out of my ass!! My squats this cycle were all messed up. I got sick and never really got on a proper plan to figure out this raw stuff. Somehow tonight with the monolift+adrenaline I just got it done. Form was a little funky on the last one...loosened up a little and rounded and just grinded it out. My top end is light years beyond my bottom end, lol. I am still very happy with this as I was expecting much less coming in. Here are two vids....the 440 video didn't take.

Interesting!! What would be considered raW?

Haha thanks, they are deeper than his "RaW" squats, lol.

I went in today and just did some light stuff to keep from going crazy. Very light floor presses, cable rows, face pulls and curls and then I walked on the treadmill for 10 mins or so. Tomorrow I will eat until I can't eat no more and then hopefully hit some bench/deadlift PR's on Friday!!

On a side note, I took a training course held by the MTA yesterday through my Union. It was track training and basically taught you all the safety precautions and guidelines to follow when you are working on the tracks/at the train stations. It was sick, we took the subway into Brooklyn and then walked down into the tunnels from one station to another. Trains passed by us and we had to stand in a "niche" as they call it which basically leaves your body within a foot of contact of oncoming trains. Definitely not something I ever expected to do!! It was like in Superman when Lex Luther has his hidden laire in the subway systems, lol. I also learned that the homeless have areas down there in the tunnels where they have like little villages setup with electrical outlets and everything. Pretty wild!!

Badass squatting right there, bro. I can feel the energy pooring out of those vids man, they make me wanna go crush a PR everytime I watch one of them. You crank it up, bro, don't ever stop.

That's the weirdest thing I think I've heard about the little homeless-village thing. Reminds me of like Demolition Man with Dennis Leary and them living under the city, lol. I know exactly the scene you are talking about on Superman too, haha.

Tried putting the straps up early with the Leviathan, seemed to work well. Thanks!
