    I was very disappointed with my squat and bench, mostly my bench because I had a very good training cycle for bench and was poised to hit a PR of 290-300. My squat and deadlift cycles didn't go as well so I didn't really expect anything going in on those lifts. I wasn't consistent with my calorie intake the past 4 weeks or so and I only came in at 175 lbs. last November when I hit PRs across the board I believe I weighed in somewhere between 180-181. My goal now is to put on another solid 5-10 lbs over the next few months.

    The deadlift PR was kinda a surprise because I didn't have a great pulling cycle. Earlier this week I watched a video made by George Leeman about why he wears his belt up high when he pulls. I liked how it sounded because the way he explained it would put me in a better position to get through my shitty lockout. Well I tried it on Tuesday and worked up to 505(5 days out)with a shitty bar for an easy single. So I tried it at the meet and I managed to hit an all-time PR and may have been able to grind out a little more. So even though I wasn't happy with the day, it was nice to finish strong.

    Also, my team Gaglione Strength won the team competition. We had a huge group that lifted over the two day event.

    Congrats on the great 181 total and the dead PR nonetheless.

    Those 5 extra pounds of body weight can make a pretty big difference. I always seem to have a sweet spot weight wise where my strength really starts to suffer when I drop below it.

    Thanks guys. I'm going to experiment with higher frequency-/low volume for a bit on Squat and bench. I will pull once a week. Going to try and stick with this for a few months and see of it kills me or makes me stronger.

    My back is sore as fuck from yesterday so I didn't go nuts today. Brought my bench grip IN one finger. My bench is so disgusting. I go to local meets. People out bench me or bench the same in like their first or second meet and then I outpull them by 100+ lbs. Obviously my body isn't weak and I have been benching for a very long time, I just absolutely suck at it. So weight gain+higher frequency it is.

    Also on that note, I witnessed Jason Manenkoff bench 410@165 at my meet and that is just freaking ridiculous. I need to stop being out benched by over 100 lbs because that is just pathetic. 300+ at my next meet or I start hitting the Test ;-)

    I had to use the shittier of the squat racks because some people at my gym find the need to do their 200 lb deads from the top-down and need to set it up on the half rack and walk it out every set. The rack I squatted out of has one set of pegs that puts the bar up on my neck and the next one down I have to do a half-squat to unrack it. Either way I hit a really easy single with 405 once I managed to get it out and setup with it. Tomorrow I will squat and bench.

    I got sick right after the meet. I trained through it on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it got worse and I decided to rest the rest of the week. Got back in there today and even though I've felt like crap for the last 6 days, I actually felt pretty strong. Hit an easy double on squats and then hit some decent doubles on bench while experimenting with my setup.

    Just decided to go I and squat today for the hell of it. That's the 6th straight day I squatted and each day I went up to at least 405x2(which is 90% of what I hit at the meet less than 2 weeks ago). Not sure if this high frequency will work or not in the long run, but I'm feeling more and more confident under the bar each time already.

    Hit an all-time PR double on squats and I walked it out. Then I matched my all-time double PR on pulls, but last time I did it tap and go and this time was with a dead stop.

    I am basically experimenting with a high frequency, low volume routine. I was very disappointed with my squat and bench at my last meet. I seem to be able to recover pretty well from higher frequency than I do from balls out Max Effort days and from real high volume. So I have been squatting 5-6 days per week, but I just work up to one real work set for the day of 1-5 reps. I am still kinda trying to decide how to work my bench. Right now I am doing a bench movement 3-5 times per Week. On that I might make it 3 days and play with the volume, but I'm still kinda going by feel. Deadlifts I will do 1-2 times per week.


    All I can say so far is that my hips/legs feel less tight and beat up squatting like this than they do when I only squat once to twice per week. I feel like my technique has already improved and I just have much more confidence under weights of 90%+ since I hit them all the time now. Yesterday was my 11th squat session in the past 12 days and each day I worked up to at least 405(only hit 450 at my meet). Yesterday I hit an all-time double so to this point I'm a believer, but we'll see how I feel after another month or so.
