The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks! I took what you and Rhodes have said about gaining weight to heart. Put on 20lbs from April to November which led to 230lbs on my total.

I like the no-nonsense approach you guys take and the emphasis on a team atmosphere to get strong.

I should look into the vest. Sounds like an interesting option. I'm usually to beat up from lifting to do anything more than walking or maybe the elliptical trainer.

Congrats on the increase in your total. That's what it's all about. Yeah, the vest sucks. I call it the heart attack. Look into it. I found mine on ebay for a pretty reasonable price. They can get expensive.

    Walk outside for 20 minutes

    10/13

    Drop load week

Raw bench 405x5, 445x3, 495x3 was supposed to just be single tonight. I wanted five, but I dropped my hips on the third thus grinding the lockout more than I should have so I just racked it. I'm a little disappointed.

    4 board press 315 w/ doubled mini's x5 365 w/double mini's x5, 405 w/double mini's x5 felt easy hips were up, quality lockouts

Seated overhead dumbell presses 100'sx20, 100'sx20

Drank shakes and hung out at Southside for a bit. Brian and Matt showed me a few exercises to stretch my hamstrings and hip flexors because I am squatting and deadlifting again. It might take some pressure off my old back injury. Having knowledgeable training partners is such a huge help. I could not be doing what I am now without them. Thanks guys.

    Nice work Vincent! 495 x 3, wow!

What do you mean by "dropped my hips?" Does this cause a loss of leg drive?

I agree with you on the training partner thing. Definitely the most important part of my training.

When you drop your hips you flatten out. That increases the range of motion and it makes it harder to finish your rep.

Thanks guys. I just expected to have a better day. I had a complete sh%t week of work. Happens to us all I know. I just don't like it effecting my eating and training.

Had to skip squats yesterday. I am just too beat up. I am a little worried about my back. I think hitting my squat, bench, and deadlift 5-3-1 workouts all in the same week was too much. Especially because I repped out my 1 set on each exercise. I am going to stagger them in the future.

    11/17
    20 minute walk outside

Sled drag 45 lbs on grass 750 feet. It really sucked because the grass was cut very low and there has been a lot of rain. It was like dragging it accross clay.

Took a nice contrast shower afterwards

    11/18

    20 minutes on treadmill

4 minutes on the inversion table

    Contrast shower

This is the Mimnaugh special. I don't feel right so I am not training (that is dripping with sarcasm). Just trying to get my back right. Usually I will veg and do nothing. I am trying to be pro active about the whole thing. I can't wait to bench Friday. 2 board in the shirt baby!

Sorry to bring this up again, but I didn't understand. When you say "dropped my hips", does this mean they slid down the bench a bit? In which way do your hips move?

It's great to hear you're helping out with the Special Oly events vincent. I love watching those guys lift at my local meets.

When I bench I squeeze my glutes which pushes my hips up. When I drop my hips it lengthens the range of motion and it means I am not driving through my heels as hard as I can. This makes it more difficult than it should be to lock out.

    11/21 ME Bench

    2 board 585x1
    4 board 700x1
    3 board 800x1
    2 board 850x1, 905x1

    Standing overhead press 225x5, 275x2, 320x3

Training felt good tonight even though I feel I am getting sick. The 585 off the 2 board was a bit of a grind. That's a good thing though because if a lift did not explode to lockout I would miss it. My triceps are finally getting stronger. Here's some video
