My SPF Meet Write Up w/video
I drove down to TN with Tee Tee and Rhodes for the SPF Ironman. It was a lovely 13 hour trip. I have been miserable and sore for the past couple of weeks and the drive did not help. I have been having plenty of personal stuff going on, but a serious competitor should be able to put that crap out of his mind. To top it off I have bloated up a good 15 lbs in the past few weeks so I am quite self loathing.
On Saturday warmups went well enough. I smoked a 500 opener and my 560 went pretty much the same. For the third I took 600. I wanted a 600 raw in my second weight class. It came off my chest great. I drifted it to try and finish, but I just ended up pushing it into the rack. Everyone was like "You had it, you just misgrooved it." I could easily take that excuse and run with it, but that was not the case. The weight was about 5 more lbs than I was capable of lifting that day. However, I would not have been anymore satisfied with a 595 bench than the 560 I left with.
I want to congratulate my training partner Tee Tee McCray for hitting a nice 840 bench. This is his first meet after having his tricep reattached. Well done big guy. You got to add another best lifter award to your resume. I also need to thank Rhodes for handling us. He did a great job. All my training partners are great and thanks to Dave for his programming help.
A couple of parting thoughts. The meet was very well run. I have been to just about every pro type event there is and the judging at the SPF is on par with the rest of the multiply feds. I was glad to meet so many of the guys who from the forum. It was great talking to you all. Lones from here at WBB had a great day. Congrats to Chad "Tom Selleck" Wesley Smith for his great meet. He's a crazy strong lifter and a really cool guy. It was great to see the ElteFTS guys that were there. I got to hang out with Josh McMillan again which was fun. He's the biggest 270 lb man I have ever seen (and he might even weigh a little less than that). Big Rob's raw 1000lb raw squat was such an electric feat at the meet. Everyone there agreed it was a great lift. AJ and Hoff were amazing. They are also really cool guys. Congrats on the all time world records guys. Got to bs with Louie a little and that's always fun. The Godfather even hugged me on my way out. Sometimes a thing like that is even more important than numbers. I know some people have problems with others in this sport, but I have a philosophy of treating others like they treat me. Everyone there treated me really well and for that I am humbled and grateful.
So I did not compete at the level I wanted. That is my fault alone. I need to take a look at things and really learn from this. I need to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together to accomplish the goals I set out for myself. A goal without a plan is little more than a wish.
