The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Cool, what do you use to pad them? I'd imagine your arse would get a little sore from plopping down on one with 300+ lbs on your back.

Find a small piece of plywood, or just run to a hardware store and buy one for a couple bucks (I'll bet they can even cut it for you). 1/2" or 3/4" should do the trick. Probably 18" square piece. You could even splurge and get a carpet tile to attach to the top of the plywood. Probably cost you under 10 bucks total. Just bring it and your milk crate with you on box squat day, or if the gym is cool leave it there.

borracho - thanks for the props dude!

K - cool bro, sounds legit. i will ask them saturday, if I lift, if it's alright for them if I leave it in there. i could ask you an idea for anything and i bet youd have an answer.

i was also wondering, when i get deep into my squat right before i hit paralell, i fell weak. like i just drop into the hole. do you know anything, other than box squat, that could work on my strength in that area?

Up so early??....its called work and you know full well all about that at the moment homeboy!

If you dont have a box yet just stack a whole lot 45s on top of each other or even a stepper+plates.

Nice squattin back there. You getting some momentum going again. Good ****! This is the hardest part, keep er lit!

That's some nice leg work Jed...getting into the gym regularly makes it happen, even if you just get the two days in per week.

Flynn - thanks for the suggestion, but i dont think this gym would allow that. theres only 8 45's total, and you know the bench jockeys always need their plates :P

coke - thanks for the encouragement throughout man.

Thanks alot, painzer! I hope to get back into condition soon enough.

Fellas - i'm havin a problem with my squat. It seems after i've been squattin' a while, when I get into the heavy stuff I seem to give out a little bit before I hit the hole. That is, on my descent, a bit before I hit the paralell plane, I just pretty much drop into the hole. It's not a severe drop, but it is a slight drop and presents a problem. It makes me uncomfortable as I enter the hole, which is obviously one of the worst things that can happen. Is there anything you all know of that could increase the strength of whatever muscle it is that is causing me to do that? Box squats obviously, but anything else? Thanks for any reccomendations.

Sounds like a lack of flexibility. You really need to hold your breath and stay tight all the way through. The reason you are getting loose into the hole is because as you get lower, your flexibility prevents you from comfortably going deeper while holding your air/staying tight, which results in the dip. If i'm understanding right, just work on stretching out your glutes, hammies, and warm up your hips. Try doing some dynamic warmup stuff to loosen up your hips. High knees, under overs, leg swings..etc.

I am pretty flexible, but I will try stretching more before I squat next. All I do is warmup sets with no dynamics prior to. Thanks for the advice, manly!

Good workout today! Increased weight/reps on everything I did last week.

    ME Bench :
    135x6 WU
    155x1
    175x1
    185x3
    195x3
    205x3
225x1 (think I couldve hit this 6 or 7 times)
    245x1
    255x1
    265x1 +5 lb

    Full ROM Pullups :
    BWx8
    BWx7
    BWx8

    Reverse Crunches :
    BWx10
    BWx12
    BWx14

    Skullcrushers w/ EZ Curl :
    65x10
    65x10 +1 rep
    65x10 +3 rep

    DB Flyes :
    35x10
    35x10
    35x10

Good workout overall! Had to replace Decline DB Press w/ Flyes because all the adjustable benches were in use. Switched off rows for pullups this time. Flyes ripped my chest and delts apart, felt super. I feel confident next week I will be able to hit 270 for Bench Press... 265 came up tough, but I beleive if it was 270 I may have been able to hit it. But I don't want too much too fast, just gota get back into it slowly. Weighed in at 188 with just shorts and cutoff on, no shoes. Still losing my beer gut ME Squat next, probably Thursday.

You'll smash 270, bro! That's lookin like a good Westside model you got there. Leave a bit in the tank for next week and don't get too greedy is the way to go. How was the elbow on the skullz? Something that has always helped me is to always try to set some sort of a PR in every session. Whether it's a rep or weight PR on your assistance work or your main lift for the day, just keep pushing the limits man. Solid moves.

Keph - Thanks for the words duder. Plan on taking it easy and making a smooth insertion. 270 should go up next week with a little mind power. The elbow is fine - I think with that huge idle time without work and lifting for about 2 months it gave it time to heal which it had never had before. I still get shots of pain in it on occasion, but it hasnt sparked up yet in bench or tri iso work.

Coke - Thanks for the props big man.

Borracho - Hah dude, why am I the son of a bitch? You're the one beating me! You son of a bitch. :P Don't be sorry brotha, we're all friends here! Thanks for the words.

Goody - Thanks for the words and for stopping by.

Dan - Heh, I'm not really pressing crazy strong yet. When I get back up to 285 (hopefully no longer than end of December) I will be back to fairly strong... When I get there, 300 will come soon and I can't wait

Great ME bench session mate. Youre better holding back even just half a rep and working up slowly. Leave the 270-275 for the next time. Youll murder it.

Thanks for the words Flynn. I hope so.

I woke up this morning with a fever, cough, plugged nose... congested all day and sneezing everywhere, along with coughing. I feel exhausted. I'm going to bed now (8 PM) and hopefully will get a good 12-13 hours of sleep. I will see how I feel in the morning. If it's good enough to squat then I will go in, but this just came out of nowhere. Wish me luck.

I'm alive, but very exhausted and decided to take off work and lifting until monday to give my body 5 days of full rest. Bronchitis on an asthma victim is a harsh toll on someone :P Very congested and stuff, but I got to the doctor right away and starting taking meds and hopefully they fight it before it even gets bad! Thanks for the thoughts man.

Man, everyone has gotten sick lately. Hope you feel better quickly, bro. You should pickup one of those Sinus Rinse Neti Pot things at the drug store. Since I started using one of those things for my ear infections, I have dodged and gotten over **** so much faster. I use it everyday, the thing is ****ing magic.
