The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Well if it makes you feel any better my max was 245 like 6 weeks ago (I think). And you'll definitely get back up soon cause i'm sure you know how to handle diet well. I hear ya there, maybe you could give me some advice on chest growing? Lifts, exercises, rep ranges, anything that you are educated on

I have started to do a Power/Hypertrophy split.

    It looks something like this.

    Upper Power
    (Option Off)
    Lower Power
    Off
    Push Hyper
    Pull Hyper
    Legs Hyper
    Off

This allows me to focus on heavy pressing in lower rep ranges on Mondays and on Thursdays or Fri I focus on a broader rep range and do alternative chest exercises. DB Press, Inc DB Press, Machine Flies, Floor Presses, CGBP etc. The possibilites are endless.

My chest and lats are my biggest glaring weaknesses and I am determined to improve them drastically in the next year before competing again.

That's an interesting split, did you create yourself I take it? Never seen somethin worded like that. Have you had any experiences with a lift that works best for you? I've heard dips are the #1 chest grower but I have trouble isolating my chest from my triceps on a lot of exercises that involve chest.

Naw I didn't make it myself. Its a split made famous my Layne Norton Pro Natty BBer and Champ Raw PLer.

A ton of natural bodybuilders/powerlifters use it.

As far as how exercises "feel" bench press isn't it for me. I feel full ROM DB press way more. Same goes for floor press and machine flies. I too have trouble isolating chest on those big compound presses.

Ah I gotcha, that's cool. Good call on the DB press, I feel it there, too. Interesting floor press is one for you though. Hopefully with "more weight" we'll both be able to achieve manly chesticles.

I'm trying to do a combo of power/hypertrophy as well, except I mix them both in the same day. I'll hit my big power movements first, like deads/bench/squats and after that I do lots of higher volume accessory work. Sometimes I'll throw in an extra workout towards the end of the week and hit certain muscle groups a second time and that day I'll usually keep the weight lighter and up the volume as well. We'll see how it works.

Thanks fellas. Invain, let me know how it works out, i'm sure i'll be following along anyways.

Awesome workout today, i'm sure i'll be feeling this one tomorrow.

    DE Bench

    Kroc Rows
    90x15
    90x15
    90x15

    DB Pullovers
    35x12
    40x12
    45x12

    Bench (Rep Effort)
    135x5
    185x10
    195x8
    205x6

    GHR Sits
    BWx12
    BWx12
    BWx12

    Skulls
    75x4 - stopped.

    DB Bench
    60x10
    60x8
    60x6

Had a great day today. The Kroc rows were f***ing awesome, i've never done them the 'kroc' style, and I feel it hit my back a lot more (as opposed to biceps doing strict form) so that is a plus, they will be added regularly now. They were definitely one of the hardest things i've done after the first set I was really giving it my all to pump out 15... Pullovers also felt pretty awesome and these will be done weekly to hopefully widen up my chest and ribcage as I am very narrow there. Benching after those two was tough therefore the lack in weight but it felt pretty damn good. DB Bench was also pretty much at maximum, felt great although it was light weight. Elbow was popping hardcore w/ the skulls (grrrr) so I had to stop. I was till DOMS'd from the 100 dips but that's no excuse; overall a fine workout and am looking forward to squatting later on in the week. 189.8 with sweats/shoes on today.

Good stuff, man. I'm sure now you know how to do Kroc rows since you've read my response. They're awesome, and soon you won't be able to do them weekly because they're just that good. I thought you knew **** like this already, but you can't widen your rib cage. Your rib cage, as you know, are bones. You cannot change the shape of your bones/make them longer from weight lifting or anything else for that matter. It just won't happen. I still have crazy DOMS from dips, too. Not sure if I'll be able to bench tomorrow and that was from Friday!

Good, I look forward to not being able to do them weekly. Do you mean the DOMS strays out that long or what? And I don't think I meant what I said, I'm just trying to remember what the author of Super Squats said that pullovers helped with... I figure he wouldn't spout bullsh** since it's a pretty popular book. Will they help at all then?

Well maybe 3 sets of 20 or something would work for you Invain, but I wouldn't know. Ask Keith and Keph and whoever else does 'em.

Yeah I came in today with high volume in mind. I've been hitting speed a ton on my past DE days and figured it was time for some rep work to mix it up. Apparently 3x15 on krocs is too much and I should've warmed up and done a 100x20 or something and that's it. Thanks bro.

Outstanding workout today! Huge confidence gain with the new squat number, I knew it would start climbing soon and it has started. Now I need to keep up the intensity and keep adding weight every week and my squat will be back to where it used to be shortly. Really kept the pace and got the sweat and the stink goin - felt like an awesome workout overall for sure. Was sure to hit depth on the squat, too, and my stance is still fairly narrow. Not OLY style but probably shoulder width or a little more. 190.2 BW today with shoes and shorts!!

AK, Coke - Thanks for the support, men!

Keith - Yeah dude, I know... I don't know where it came from to be honest. But I know i've been tracking diet lately and have been getting no less than 3,000 cals a day but on average 3,500. I feel good physically and mentally.

Paul - Let's hope so in the near future, bro. It's been probably 18 months since i've put that much weight on the bar and squatted it... Judging by your last squat workout i'd guess your squat is at what... 345?

    I hit 315 x 11 3-4 weeks ago. But yea I would say I should be good for a 345 single.

Once I get my hip fixed and legs and core reconditioned I will try heavier triples and singles on squat.
