The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Coke - Never felt em in the chest like that before though. Thanks man!!

    John o - Thanks dudely.

AKM - Only back pain was when I was on the descent to get into position for decline press, and tiny pain doing the bent over KB's. But nothing that was over 'barely noticeable'.

Borracho - Heh, me too man, me too. Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about trying to avoid using your back 100%, just judge by how you feel. If your back starts feeling a little tight stop whatever you're doing.

Good sh** today... Chins were done the same way as the pullups were last week, think i'll be doing it this way for a while, loving the volume i'm able to hit. Also, was aiming for 8 sets of 5 and I hit it, so i'm giving myself a pat on the back. Shrugs with DB's I think I like better because it seems like I can hit more RoM with them... Didn't get my strap tight enough on the second set so I had to 're-rack' and fix it, lest I get pancake-foot disorder. Facepulls were cool, haven't done them before, felt it in my traps for sure. Are you supposed to flare elbows for those, or keep them in? Krocs were hard as f***ing with arthitis in your hips, but I got them done. The last 5-6 reps with my left hand were sloppy, but I still managed full RoM, just ugly as sin. Cable rows and some abs to top it off. Not much back pain today, but had some irritation after Krocs. Considering I get irritation when I f***ing take a deuce I really don't think that's a big deal.

Invain - tell me more about how to strengthin my hammies without hitting my back. Cause any weight over 45 lb.; GM's, squats, etc. hurts it too much to risk at the moment. Thanks.

Do you have access to a leg curl machine? That would be the best by far for isolating your hams. Other than that, it's pretty tough without involving your back very much. You could try some BW glute haim raises, just make sure to really focus on form/using your hams to eliminate any back strain.

I wish I had access to a leg curl but I don't. Would a bench + bands (homemade leg curl) promote strength, or are there not strong enough bands? I've never used them before. I will try to rig up a place where I can do BW glute hams.

I see your sense of humor has returned. More chins ad more weight and reps on the Krocs. Fine effort. Yes, keep the elbows high and flared. Any clarification from the doctor on the back?

Tight session Jed. DB Rows are hell for making you want to puke, eh? Happens all the time.

Solid efforts dude. Congrats on the chin PR.

Haha, like the little "post-workout thoughts by Jed".

Congrats on hitting the Pull-up goals. That's some sick a** volume there, especially considering all the other stuff you're following it with!

I forget, are you looking to lose or gain weight now (I hate using the words 'cutting' and 'bulking')? Anyway, you've got some good strength for your weight!

    Coke - Thanks manly!

John o - Thanks man, and yeah I attempted some funnies. Sounds good about the elbow. Doc appointment is tomorrow.

Flynner - Thanks for the words dude. And yeah other than cardio those are my #1 thing that makes me want to yack.

    AK 47 - Thx d00dz!i

Bri - Lawl thanks dudely. The chins were with the first two following the chins, so they were a bit spaced out but still got volume in. I am looking to maintain at the moment because I was getting fat. I'm trying to shed fat and keep muscle or maintain if possible, and it's working for now. I have cut 50g/day of fat out and it's made a difference, and i'm still hovering in the 200 range and getting stronger. Thanks man.

Really solid session, buddy. Good to see the volume with the chins, that should do wonders for you. About the face pulls, elbows flared right out and high. It's a great exercise. Again, I don't know the details about your lower back, but when I do Kroc rows, I can definitely feel them in my lower back. Not with 80s, but anything over 140 I feel it. Not sure if I would do them with your issue right now. You know better than any of us, but see how you feel about it and make the judgment call.

Thanks John, AK. Keith - I can agree with you there, and seeing as it was fine until after the krocs I think I may take it easy on them or not do them at all as good as they feel, good call. Thanks for the words mate.

Well men, good news, kind of? I went in yesterday and my doc had no problems distributing the Cortisone shot. He gave me a large liquid injection in my shoulder so it would spread through my whole body and reach my lower back; he said no way in hell he was going to plunge a needle into my back and I don't blame him. I also have been prescribed Prednisone for 12 days in a taper-style cycle. 3-3-3-3-2-2-2-1-1-1. I have been on Prednisone once before for my double tendonitis in my elbows and it worked wonders. He said by Monday afternoon I should be feeling moderate to significant pain relief if the problem has to do with inflammation. For those who don't know, cortisone is a 'super-anti-inflammatory' and Prednisone is a corticosteroid often prescribed to people with Arthritis to help ease their pain also. From this morning I can already feel a slight relief in pain, but I hate to jump to conclusions. I will let the first couple days of Prednisone take place, and we will see from there. I have a good feeling about this (remember, I am a jedi) and think we may have finally found something to at least ease my pain. Thanks for your continued support; I have a busy weekend and week coming up so I will provide as many updates / journal visits as I can muster.

Good news bro! So does the fact that you responded to the injection say anything about the root of the problem/if it's fixable. I'd think if inflammation was the problem, it could be fixed with time? Anyway, glad to know you're not in pain.
