The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Ran today... barely made time.

    Pavement run
    1.5 miles @ 12:27

My first police test is coming up Saturday. I need to hit 12:51 or under 1.5 mile and 39 situps in under 60 seconds. Pushups are no biggie. Will see how it goes. Run was my #1 issue and I know I can make time for that, but situps are still something I have been lacking to train. I'm hoping my recent re-insertion to some resistance movements was rebuilding my core.

Lookin for some input from you all...

What's the best TASTING whey you've ever had? Brand and flavor... I'm not worried about price. I'm lookin for something that'll taste and mix supremely. I'll only be having about a scoop or so a day so it'll last a while. I usually mix w/ milk but it's not a huge deal if I do it with water. All I've had is GNC and Nitrean, chocolate.

I've read up some good reviews on Nectar (fruity flavors like lemonade), Champion, Scivation and ON...

Honestly, a generic brand bought from CVS was the best tasting one I've ever had. Strawberry flavor. I think the brand is body fortress.

I've tried body fortress (crap), ON (decent), Designer (decent), 6-Star (smooth mix, weird aftertaste), Muscle Milk (smooth and tasty), and now using BSN Syntha-6. It's the best so far. Mixes smooth and tastes great. Lots of flavors but I've only tried Chocolate Mint and Vanilla Ice Cream and only mixed in water. I've also responded physically better. I get mine from Amazon or Swanson Health.

I've tried a ton of different wheys. My favorite was BuyBulkWhey but they have been "out of stock" for about 2 years now. I really liked Nitrean's older chocolate. The new Nitrean+ is pretty nasty I think. Doesn't even taste like chocolate. Neither does the Strawberry. Twin Labs (I think that was it) makes a decent tasting one.

I have had about 4-5 flavors of the Nectar too. It's pretty good...but wears out it's welcome pretty quickly. At least it did for me anyway. Has a really funky after taste and your mouth tastes like shit about 15 minutes later. My favorite one was the Kiwi Strawberry or something and the fuzzy navel. I heard the lemon aid one was really good. The pina colada one was nast.

Thanks for the recommendations mates. Getting a list going. For now I just ordered some ON Milk Chocolate and it tastes good enough. I may consider Syntha-6 next but it'll probably take me two-three months to get through a 2 lb jug anyways lol.

    Good workout today.

Dead Ring Chins > DB Press > Full Clean

    Dead Ring Chins
    7 sets of 3
    x2
    x2
    x2
    x2
    x1
    = 30

    DB Press
    40 lb DB's
    10 sets of 8
    = 80

    Full Clean
    88 lb (40 KG)
    10 sets of 3
    = 30

    Time: 24:50

Halfway point was 11:20 and heart rate was 165... Ending BPM was 180. Sweat my friggin balls off. This was a pretty fucking badass workout. BPM was pretty spiked for over 13 minutes - probably maintained over 150 since the halfway point. IDK much about how the heart rate stuff works, but I've read take 220 minus your age (21) to get your max HR (199). Then anything over like 70-75% max is a pretty good workout. Anyone knowledgeable feel free to chime in.

Either way it felt good to hit so many reps of clean, as heavy as that silly weight may feel... DB presses feel solid, not much irritation on the elbow and they definitely hit my chest after I wake up in the morning. Was surprised that I was able to nearly mirror my normal chin workout from last week with these ring chins. Any input on what hits your lats harder - ring chins or bar chins? And by chins I mean palms out. Although with rings it doesn't really matter cause it's the same grip regardless.

Nice workout, bro. Rings are awesome! I don't use them that much anymore though. I don't think that straight bar or rings really hits your lats any harder. It is still the same movement from a mechanical point of view. The only real difference is that Rings are going to hit all your stabilizers a lot harder. That means more work and a harder movement. Rings always wore me out more than straight-bar. I think they are probably a better lift in the end.

No joke dude, shit is awesome. Not an expert, but where you were was on point - anything from the 165 to 180 max. If you can hold that down for a stretch, major props to you!!

Thanks for the work dude-bros. Thanks for clarifying the rings K. I know you used to use them a ton.

Untimed Circuit today... Dead Chins > Deads > Pushups

    Straight Bar Dead Chins
    x5
    x5
    8 sets of 3
    = 34 +4

    Conv Deadlift
    Add chalk
    70x5
    80x4
    90x3
    100x2
    110x1
    120x1
    130x1
    140x1
    Add StRaPz
    145x1 (319)

    Pushups
    10 sets of 15
    = 150

Great lovely workout today. I went untimed and took my time more because I was going heavy and into singles on deads. Can't believe how fast my chin strength is coming back. Just a few weeks ago I couldn't do more than 1 full rep in a set, now I am able to bang out a 2x5 right at the start. Pushups were EZ-mode... 150 seems like a lot. If I can do that many, are they even doing anything? Input?

Deadlifts were pretty cool. Very pleased to see that I have maintained some strength since the last time I deadlifted heavy which has probably been over 18 months. 319 is a pretty respectable number for me to start out at after such a long hiatus. My form felt pretty tight and I seemed to recall most of it. No back pain during the workout or so far afterwards (knock on wood). The 320 was tough as nails and a grinder for sure but I got it clean. I would imagine if I was fresh without all those reps/singles I could hit around 340 which is cool.

Does anyone know if it's a big deal to take whey after a workout? Or can you just take it anytime? I usually take it before, with creatine and beta alanine mixed in for my pre-workout. Cheers guys.

Idk about the protein, but you should definitely get something in you afterwards. Shakes are just more convenient. I don't have an appetite after a workout.

Just make the push ups harder.

I do a scoop in water before and after my workouts. I also usually have some sort of sugar (40g carbs or so) within an hour. It sorta levels me back out after all the energy expending.

Good workouts in here. Are you coming up with those on your own?

Starting some lifting a couple times a week with my university's Olympic Weightlifting student club. Two coaches are really good fellas and have some Olympic coaching certification and they are legit as F. One dude C&J's close to 350 or something if I recall at about 210 lbs, they know what they are doing.

Started with dynamics and simple PVC complexes.

    Overhead Squat
    PVC x10
    45lb x5
    45 x5
    45 x5

    Complex
Snatch deadlifts, Snatch hackey pulls, Snatch Chinese pulls, Power snatch - 5 reps each
    PVC Pipe 3 sets
    Wraps
    Bar 1 set

    64 lb Power Snatch
    Wraps
    x5
    x5
    x5

ATG Squat - 2 sec pause in the hole each rep
    Bar x6
    95 x12
    115x12
    115x12
    125x12

    Superset Mili's w/ Reverse Hypers
    Mili's
    95 3x10

    Reverse Hypers
    3x10

    Full Chins
    x10
    x7
    x3
    = 20

Holy fuck that was insane! Felt good to get back in and do some Olympic movements and have two smart guys helping me out. It's a small club of about 10-12 people so we can get some good attention. The pause squats were brutal as fuck and felt awesome. Also I was able to hit a set of 10 full ROM chins afterwards which is only I think two away from my new years goal which is great.

    Gotcha. Thanks for the links.

I could never overhead squat on that first platform. I'd fall right off the back..lol

That's not me if that's what you were thinking... But yeah the platforms I use are just a few inches off the ground but they are still off the ground so it's a bit strange.

Looks like a good workout. Lots of good stuff in there. I always stretch my hands and wrists before front squats. And lately we've been stretching under the arms to increase mobility when trying to get the elbows up.

What exactly does a bag of dicks feel like?

Does beta alinine make your face and hands burn/itch like crazy? I looked it up to see if it was an allergic reaction, but apparently it's supposed to happen if the dose is high enough. I must be really sensitive to it though.

Thanks dudes. MREL - it feels like ass I guess. Bako... B-A makes me want to rip off babies faces and eat them. It happens to almost everyone I've read. Just make sure you're not taking too much or you'll go insane.
