The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

terrible strength day today. ugh. weighed in ****ty too. ran fast though.

bench : 135x5, 185x3, 185x1, 225x3, 245x3, 245x3... this felt horrid. reps were sloppy, form was off, wasn't focused and elbows have been starting to act up again.

    GHR : 2x10

    BB mili press : 115x3, 135x3, 135x3, 135x3

    dips +25 lb : 2x10

    bench DB flys : 25 3x8

    DB bench : 50 3x10

team workout : body ball curls... haven't done curls without being told in like 3 months, proud of myself

plyos were ok. went outside and i was the only one without cleats, but still won in some of the sprints. need to remember my cleats!

weighed 184.5... wouldnt be that mad but it obviously affected my strength this time. im losing focus and determination and im paying the price i guess. need to get my head out of my ass.

well thanks guys. yeah pulse we just need to get huge. why couldn't you eat or drink anything?

i'd say good workout today. kind of tweaked my hammy though on squats.

squat : 135x5, 225x3, 245x3, 265x1, 275x3, 280x3, 285x3... i'd imagine 280 and 285 for trips are PR's. felt solid. left hammy felt really weak and was in some pain after the last 285 set. took it easy on it.

pullups +25 lb : x5, x4.5... dont really like these. maybe too much weight.

    BB rows : 135x10, 145x8

single arm DB rows : 60 3x10... heaviest DB's we have

    incline : 175x3, 185x3, 185x3...

team workout was DB shoulder shrugs... forearms KILLED

    core.

Wicked squats, dude! That's amazing that your gym only has 60 lb dumbbells, lol. Rep those out like crazy, man. You can push out plenty more than 10 reps. Get up to 20 if you can.

Bah, don't worry about the bench session the other day, bro. If you want my opinion, I'm surprised that's your first "bad" bench session in however long it's been. You've been hitting that thing hard as hell, you know? Sometimes the body just says "hey, **** you!". What I'm trying to say is that you've been killin it and it's caught up to you a little there and just rest up a little with that movement. When you're all healed up, 295+ is yours, bro.

Also, super impressive on the squats. Watch those hammies. They ****in b-low to pull. Take forever to heal up. I'd say next time on your pullups, just hit a few sets at BW, then take on the weight. It won't feel like such a brick then.

As far as your weight gain goes, don't worry too much about it, bro. I was about 117 lbs when I was your age, if that puts things into perspective The point is that you're young and there's tons of time to get that mass you want. I know you're wantin it for football season, but don't beat yourself up about it. You're a strong bastard, that's gonna make you a monster on the field. And as you get older, it's just gonna happen for you. Anyhow, rest up and nail the next one.

don't worry about the DBs. Just make sure to be strict and pull from your lats, not bi's. Plus when you get too heavy a person tends to move their back to pull it up. Good work on the squats man. It's good that you're using your hams in the first place. awesome.

Your team workouts always are funny, lol.

man u guys are insane. i feel all ****ty about my bench then u start talkin and now i feel just fine about it. kiaran, that stuff was awesome. thanks bro. all your guys' support is stellar, seriously.

hammy is already healed up i beleive, no big deal. was just maybe a little more loose than usual that day after those heavier than usual squats.

i suppose you do have a point on the rows, mick. i do SOMEWHAT use my bi's on the last few reps of the last set for them. and move my back a tiny bit. but it's still easy. i'll slow down the reps and maybe hold them up there longer and use even stricter form next time!

todays benching was, at least, better than monday's benching...

bench : 135x5, 185x3, 225x3, 245x3, 250x3, 255x3... ass may have come off a half an inch on the last rep of 255 but other than that it was legit. better than monday.

    DB mili press : 55lb 3x8

    close grip pushups : 2x20, 1x17 (fatigue)

    light crappy plyos afterwards.

didnt weigh myself today, f**k it right?

had pickleball tourney today. my partner and i got to the second round, and lost a DAMN close one 15-13. it sucked. last year we got rocked 15-2 in the second round, and this year we were SO close to getting past it but didnt quite. sucked but its just a gym game. the champs were 2 friends of mine, 2 consecutive championships now. their also the dynamic duo of our basketball team, both all-state competitors.

    thanks, men.

pretty nice squatting today and did some alright cleans.

power clean : 95x5, 185x3, 205x3, 225x3 all easier than last time, 245x0... not much to say, just couldnt get it. pull and flip both weak.

squat : 225x3, 275x3, 275x3, 275x7 PR... 275x7 was awesome. definately a reps PR i think. all reps were solid.

    lat pulldowns : 170x6, 180x6, 190x6

    incline : 185 3x3

BB rows : 175 3x6... did move a bit on each rep but i think that's hard to avoid.

team workout : 135 bench to fatigue... got 30. last time was 31 i think but i was totally cold last time and hadn't done anything. this time i did a whole workout.

damn, dude, 275x7 is nutso! You had to be dizzy after that, and your heartrate was probably going crazy. Really nice efforts there. Too bad about that pickle ball tourney; perhaps next year? It's crazy to watch you get stronger and stronger every week. Just killin it lately, bro. You definitely need to toss on the 3pps for that squat and crush a double. When's it gonna be?
