The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Yeah, put both if you want, but you should put your heaviest pull in there which is sumo. You're a strong mofo for your age, show it off!

Jed! Lots of vids there bro. I wouldnt worry about the cleans much to be honest man. I used to do them that way too before we started olympic training with a coach and all. Unless your training for some olympic event where you'll be judged, just keep doin it the way you are bro, its a whole mess of technique otherwise. Also I think you should definitely try icing that leg down on the outside of the quad (whichever leg that is) for 15 on and 25 off for an afternoon or something. Id almost be willing to be the muscles outside are tight and are pulling on that connection down there.

woo!! dont wanna sound cocky or nothin, but heck of a bench day today...

bench : 135 warmup, 185x3... 205x5... 210x5... 215x5... 220x5... 225x6... thats the best i've done in a LONG time! probably since summer. even more of an accomplishment with more RoM. we'll compare this session to last 5x5 session almost 3 weeks ago : "135 warmup, 185x5, 195x5, 205 2x5, 210x5"... i think its safe to say im progressing!!! again, dont want to sound cocky, but this is exciting progress for me.

    rows : 135x5, 140x5, 145x5, 150x5, 155x5... also think this is the heaviest 5x5 rowing ive done.

    BW dips : 3x10

seated side laterals : 15 4x8... these burned! delts are getting to me BAD, so i'm adding in more exercises for them.

get this... i also JOGGED! i jogged TWO WHOLE blocks without stopping, in 25 degree weather on snow!! i was jacked that i made it without stopping. i puked at the end but whatever. gonna start running more for two reasons : need to be in shape eventually for law enforcement training , and to build muscle in my calves! felt good actually. i felt like rocky when hes in russia!

ps... i realize 2 blocks is like a quarter mile.... but its still an accomplishment for me!

Damn, that's some strong benching. Dude, if you didn't do so many warmups, you could smash 225x6!

Fantastic work man! Those numbers look really really strong. That heavy rowing and those dips augment the bench numbers nicely, good job. Have you thought about adding some weight to those dips? Are they close grip?

thanks zen! hey - u wanna check out my clean vids? idk if u can learn anything or if u can give me some advice, who knows. i wish my rows were as heavy as yours!! yes ive thought and tried adding weight to dips, i usually add 25 if anything and do a 5x5, but i never feel like it does anything... so BW 3x10 or like 5x fatigue usually SEEMS like it works better. yes i;d say their close grip, about delt width.

Heres what I thought after watching them

    A few things

    1. Drop your ass and aggressively arch your back at the start

    2. Keep your arms straight. They are the weakest link, propel the bar with the triple extension. Think of your arms as ropes during the lift.

    3. Think of the clean as a rocket. Multiple stages of ignition. Start the lift slowly and speed up.
    --In order >
    -Clear the knees
-extend the hips and ankles (cue: pulling your body to the flat plane made by the line of you feet to shoulders)
-shrug (fastest part.. pulling yourself under the bar with the shrug) after you have stood as tall as you can

    4. Keep your shoulders over the bar as long as possible.

    5. At the start feet should be narrow and parallel.

Watch the whole thing but be sure to study the slow motions. Compare it with yours

    Check 1:07 & 3:09 specifically

anyways, bomb ass workout today. looks like nothin, but PR's on everything...

    "dead tired"

deads... : 135 warmup, 225x3, 275 2x5, 280 2x5, 285x5!!! im getting better at conventional. took my shoes off and this also helped. DEAD TIRED after this.

standin mili : 135 4x5, 135x3 (fail)... this is a PR i think. never started with 135 and gone 4.5 sets before! my shoulders are TOAST... i found a way to hit em. heavy 5x5 bench then heavy milis the next day!

You should try to arch as hard as possible because it's going to be easy to let the back round and try to do an explosive back extension to get the weight up. By keeping back locked in extension you ensure no power is lost through the vertebra and is transferred straight from the force against the floor into the bar. This is the same reasoning why the arms should not be allowed to bend before the third pull.

I bet you can fix this in a single WO.

    Arms=Ropes

Learning this will make the clean a much easier movement. Rely on your core and legs to create upward momentum. Also, dont be afraid to catch the bar lower in a squat position. The squat clean is my favorite thing to do and I think you will like it alot.

yes i have indeed experimented with full cleans and i enjoy them, its just problems with flexibility or injury. i can do them fine with 135 and stuff, but anything over 185 feels dangerous to me. what lift works what more? (like whats power work more and whats full work more)

Damn your bench is strong, dude. 225x10 next time I bet. Really nice job on that, man, I know you've been patient getting that thing back up there. That's good **** about the jogging, lol. I hate running. And running in freezing weather is like rolling around in broken glass. Cool deal on the law enforcement. One of my good friends studied the same thing in college and got a great job in law enforcement. 2 blocks is probably closer to a mile than you think.
