The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Post-Cut & caliper/BF Question

Here's a few pictures I took a couple minutes ago.

I've been cutting on and off since September. I'm really not happy with the way things went up until January. I think the first 4 months I lost way too much muscle and way too little fat. Since then I think I've had some improvements. I'm done cutting now.

I'm 6'4 / 206 in these pictures. I think I was at a slightly lower body fat at 210 a couple weeks ago, but I went on spring break (and drank ...a lot), got back, worked out twice, and then got sick for the past 3 days. Now I get to start really packing on muscle.

Anyway, I had a couple questions on body fat tracking. I got a digital skin caliper. I know it's not perfectly accurate. Soo... (a) What is your estimation of my BF% right now? (b) Let's say the skin caliper throws out an inaccurate estimate that my BF is 45%. If it moves to 53%, does that necessarily mean that I gained 8% body fat (or very close to it)? Or, can I only safely assume that I gained fat, but not for sure what percent? (I chose 45% so that it doesn't prejudice your estimations. I don't think anyone on this site is that high)

    Ok pics

    Here's a few "before" shots.

The first two are September (225 lbs), the second two are January (~215 lbs). The last one is from last April (~220 lbs, and probably the highest bf%), in that one I actually had a tan.

I second Built, you have the right combo to do well in competitions. Have the illusion to look bigger than you are. After another bulk and cut you'll be even more impressive!

Well, if you would do high rep pump workouts maybe you'd get toned legs, too. Stupid low rep powerlifting crap...

And thanks for the additional feedback

Looking fantastic man. Have you been tracking your measurements? Either way, would you mind sharing what they are now?

Looking shredded - 8% is about right IMO.

Lats are really really good. Only criticism I can give is that your traps are lagging a little IMO. Looking pretty awesome though!

    Somewhere between 8% and 12%.

The thing is, it doesn't matter. You are clearly very lean, and I think you have a good bit of bodybuilding potential should you choose to pursue it.

With calipers, the key is to do the same thing every time, and track trends... If the measurement is getting smaller, that's good, right?
    Squats work better than supplements.
"You know, if I thought like that, I'd never put more than one plate on the bar for anything, I'd never use bands or chains, I'd never squat to parallel or below, and I'd never let out the slightest grunt when I lift. At some point in your lifting career (assuming you're planning on getting reasonably strong and big), you're going to have to accept that most people think you are some kind of freak." -Sensei
"You're wrong, and I have a completely irrelevant pubmed abstract that may or may not say so." - Belial
