The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    pushups to prevent atrophy?

Atrophy, that's the word right? If I'm not able to make it to the gym will pushups help maintain my bench... a little atleast? I know the chest is one of the first muscles to start that process because during a normal day you barely use any pressing motions.

I've been getting hit with a ****load of work in class and it doesn't look like it's going to lighten up. And any free-time I do get to lift comes at such an inconvenient time (i.e. just finished an exam, and have the rest of the day off but since I only slept 3 hours the night before I have to choose between sleeping or going to bust my ass.. hmm) that it would only be counter-productive to even attempt to lift.

So will busting out 150 pushups in between trying to figure out calc homework help or is it not really going to do anything? I'm also aware that doing pushups recruits different muscle fibers than that of benching. I'm just hoping there's something I can do because i'm tired of working up to a certain point only to have something hamper my progress and then I have to practically start over again.

Don't worry, you won't turn into Screetch right away.

When you do come back, you might be set back a little, but you will gain it back very quickly, I'd imagine.

I wouldn't do sets larger then 10-15 at a time...
Also think about doing them in different ways.. like:
very slow, very fast, explosive (clapping), incline, decline, uneven hands - up/down or forward/back, close together, wide apart, pushups shrugs, isometically, Hindu pushups, etc...

I'm with them. Doing pushups would certainly be better than nothing, and there are ways to make it harder, as bearwolf alluded to.

Anybody else watch these? That host has my ideal body... think it's natural sans test? I think he had a little help - pushups and pullups can't make you *that* big, right?
