Doing situps every other day or everyday?

I currently do 350-400 situps every other day. I've heard that you need to let the muscle rest once it's been torn....and I've also heard you can do them everyday if it doesn't hurt.

Well I guess I should of added this if it's important or not: I'm 15 and have weightlifted and changed my diet for about 4 weeks to gain weight...and I've already gained some...obviously I don't want to lose weight so I don't know if situps can cause weight loss if I do too many?

Started doing abs 1-2 times a week and Do sets of weighted crunches on decline bench. Doing 350 sit ups a day Is like doing 350 curls with 5lb dumbbells every other day and expecting big arms.

I do squats and deadlifts to work my abs...

Seriously though, I did the whole "1000 crunches every other night" routine a few years ago and got absolutely no where; no suprise.

I do not directly work my abs at all anymore, and they're still there and a growin'.

I'm not doing the situps to gain weight, I'm doing it to get a sixpack.

And it's becoming clearer, just wondering what the limit is to doing them.

You don't get a six pack by doing massive amounts of sit-ups..
You get them from your diet..
I don't do any direct exercises to stimulate my abs and they are there and growing still...

What are your goals? If you want ripped abs, I suggest you stop lifting abs with so much volume. Switch to weighted, decline crunches/situps and a rep range around 6-20.

Ok here it goes. In order to get a six pack (or 4 or 8) you should do the following excercises 1 or 2 times a week...I prefer twice.

3 sets of 10 weighted decline situps (increase weight as you do with other lifts) on one day

3 sets or weighted rope crunches on the other.

That will alow you to build your abs....now in order to see the six pack you must get your diet in line and have a low bodyfat %. Doing 350 situps every other day is pretty useless. Save some time and use some weight

    Simple formula:
weighted decline crunches + low bodyfat% = ripped abs.

Sounds easy..wish I could take my own advice.
    Hope that helps.

I feel doing that many situps is a waste of time. You might have strong abs and may have a nice 6 pack. But if you want to get bulk in the abs region muscle wise, I think you need to start doing weighted abs work. Do something like 2-3 sets of 10-20 reps with some weight.

From 155 lbs to 200 lbs (PICS/VIDS INCLUDED)

    Height: 6'0"; BW: 202lbs; Age: 24; BF: ~11%
    155lbs [07-01-06] 176lbs [09-14-06] 179lbs [09-21-06] 182lbs [10-02-06] 184lbs [10-18-06] 186lbs [10-23-06] 187lbs [11-08-06] 189lbs [11-19-06] 190lbs [11-21-06] 191lbs [12-21-06] 194lbs [12-31-06]

Bench: 250lbs; Squat: 350lbs lbs; Deadlift: 430 lbs

    Military: 111lbsx8; Dips: BWx30; Pullups: BWx10; WChestP: 360lbsx7; 45LegP: 470lbsx20; C Raise: 360lbs; BB Curl: 105lbsx3; Lat Pull: 195lbsx5

1300??? Wow! Even if you did 1 crunch per second, that'd be like.... over a thousand seconds!!!
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

marine training we only do 80 then alternate elbow to leg then just do flutters and v sits. works pretty good for me and the others. dont over do it. it will make the abs form wrong and make it looks like ur have a gut that wil never go away. its nasty looking. also we call it praying to the sun gods, its when you lay on the ground stomach down support ur body using ur forearms on the ground hold that for 2 mins 3 times

when life throws u lemons, kick some ass

Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem

    You're mistaken on this.

hold a heavy thing (can be anything) over your head and run around with it.

    best ab builder ever!
Being a strong teenager means nothing.

My wrists hurt, but some people don't have wrists to be sore. My knees have tendinitis, but some people don't have legs to get tendinitis in. I seem to be going backwards with training, yet some people can't even walk let alone lift 400 pounds on a daily basis.

Dust out the vagina, and keep on lifting.

Every other night I used to do 200 crunches, some leg raises and oblique work, after that I would down a protein shake....

I stopped that ****, lost twenty pounds and now I have abs
