The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Squats Increase Testosterone And Build Muscles Quicker?

I have been doing research lately on this item. I came across it as I was trying to find out why I am getting acne on my shoulders and back areas. This acne usually comes after a couple of days of intense workouts that involved squats and deadlifts heavily. I thought it might be that my testosterone was at a higher than average level.

Is it really true that squats and other intense compounds can increase testosterone production in males? After I do squats, the next week or so I see some growth or strength in other parts of my body like my back/shoulders/arms and of course my thighs.

I just thought it was interesting and may be a reason why people doing squats see greater gains in less time than those that don't?

Yes. Total body lifts can increase levels of testosterone. It may take a couple years of consistent lifting to get the levels up.

The more muscles you use, the greater the call to the endocrine system to produce the growth hormones. Since squats use tons of muscles, as well and some of the largest muscles in the body, there's no wonder why there is more hormonal production.

That is awesome. Usually I would be mad about having breakouts on my shoulders and back. But I guess this is a sign that my hormones and testosterone are up and my muscles are getting stronger.

They use the largest muscles in the body. I like to grab some chinups on lower days to take advantage of the free hormones.

I think it is, but it also depends on how you eat that day. If you were going for an average rise in Testosterone, I'm sure that would take awhile, but test spikes aren't infrequent. AFAIK of course.

Testosterone spikes occur during and immediately after you workout and then they lower dramatically.

Makes sense. But is anyone getting acne breakouts in the same manner I am? It isn't on my face or anything but just on my back and shoulders (where there wasn't any for years; I had acne there before when I was younger).

Its funny you made this thread. Ive actually had the same thing. Its not crazy acne..its like, maybe 1 on the top of my shoulder, 2 on the other and traps, and then maybe just 1 on my chest. I never got acne in any of those areas before and my shower habbits have not changed.

I suppose it could be from sweating during a workout and then not showering directly after.

Who knows..I'd like to think its increases hormones or at least a little bit of both though

^^ What do you mean who knows, I just showed proof. It also said the squats increased the test levels 15% and the bench was 7%. So in conclusion those of you who think you don't need squats gtfo.

It is not just the acne. Without being too nasty, let's just say my "drive" is a lot higher, and I just produce more of "it". This only happens when I go through weeks of intense compounds and especially squats.

That link above and others are around if you search in google. They are agree on what I asked in the original post. Just didn't know if you guys experienced it as much as I have.

I didn't have any body acne until I started heavy compound lifting. Now I have some on my shoulder blades. For a while I even had some on my chest, that was pretty nasty.

I am in the same situation. It is not terrible acne but the wife likes big muscles to be acne free...as do I. I ended up seeing a dermatologist about it and he said to be sure and shower asap after workouts. I sweat like a pig and he thought that was the problem. Usually I would go home check on the kids...fix dinner then shower. Once I started showering imediately after workouts using cetaphil (bar soap I bought at target or walmat) it reduced it quite a bit. He also prescribed differen gel which really helped me out.

Do a search for "acne" lots of discussion and possible treatments you can try that others have been successful with.

    Good luck.

The test increase is pretty much inconsequential in the long run. Much more important is the overall change in your body composition and endocrine system as a whole from putting such a demand on it (and making those adaptations). It's not the one hour 25% increase in test that's causing the acne, trust me.

I have the same problem on my chest, shoulders, and back...but there is none on my face. Its weird because even when I used to have really bad acne on my face(when i was like 15/16) I never got ANY on the rest of my body like I do now.
