The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Scar tissue that I wish you saw.

Shaving has raised some growing scar tissue issues that have made me look like a veritable elephant man down below. It is a good thing I am in a monogamous relationship, and have been since before this started, because besides being far from aesthetically pleasing, patches of growths would a bit of a deterrent from what would otherwise be a normal, healthy member for someone who doesn't know better or from experience.

Anyway, anyone know if glyoxide is a safe and effective treatment for keloids in the nether regions?

Wow. No true words of advice for once. Just wow.

Afterthought: Vitamin E helps with scarring/keloids. Buy some Vitamin E capsules. Break them and spread the oil on affected areas (seriously). This should help somewhat. Just don't do it in the drug store.
    I know you're half-crazy, but I wish you'd go all the way.

Jim, when you shave down south are you cutting yourself each time? I'm confused - I'll admit that I've never shaved south of the Mason-Dixon line, but you have to be cutting yourself repeatedly to be developing keloids, no? I have a keloid on my cartilage where an ear stud once was, but to get that from shaving would take MULTIPLE cuts, right?

well, for a couple hundred you can get someone to permanently remove it with the pulse light treatment, although I'm not sure how well skin on your underbelow (my grandma called the nether regions your "underbelow") would tolerate it, or if this would further irritate the keloids. Its actually used to reduce or eliminate other skin issues, such as freckles, wrinkles, birthmarks, etc, so I guess there actually might be some benefit.

My family doctor actually performs this service out of the office. I mention that because I'd feel more comfortable having my doctor spend 30 minutes down there than someone I just met. Even if your doctor doesn't do it, it may be well worth your time and money to check into it with him to see if its possible in that area (I know they advertise for buttocks and bikini, so I guess the front side of a guy would be ok too).

My least visible scars are the ones that I treated with vitamin E oil, as razorcut said. In fact, I once almost tore my upper lip off of my face riding my 10speed bicycle into the back of a parked buick at 20mph. My upper teeth went through my upper lip and broke off on the pavement. The side of my face was total severe roadrash. Doc had me rubbing the E oil on it and no scars formed, which is unusual for me. I usually make thick scars. In contrast, the time my sister jumped on the teeter totter and rocketed the side I was standing in front of into my face, I did not use e oil. There is a visible scar from that.

They make stuff called mederma that is also supposed to help reduce scars. My wife used it during pregnancy for the stretch marks on her belly (I gave her big baby boys!) but unfortunately it did not prevent them from forming and did not seem to help them heal afterword. keloids may be completely different in that regard.

I say go to the doc with it. Its important to feel good about that area. There may be something that can be done professionally to resolve it.

Thanks guys. I hadn't thought of Vitamin E. I was considering a laser-type procedure, but at the moment it is not possible.

I don't cut myself. These keloids are strange. Instead of getting an ingrown hair, where it acts like a clogged pore, the area surrounding the pore fills with scar tissue, and as the hair continues to try to grow, more scar tissue grows, building on itself until there is a nice big bump or 30. I'm lucky that they don't get in the way of anything, but there's a cluster**** patch of them in one spot, and it's kind of like a tumor because the scar tissue has no feeling.
I will try Vitamin E and save any nut-burning/pulsing procedure for a last resort because it makes me nervous.

The moment I could use 'kind of like a tumor' in a description of my genital area, I would be running, possibly screaming, to a doctor.

Ok you are going to completely and totally hate this suggestion... You should wax... I know I know, no no in the nether regions and all but where shaving tends to increase the thickness of the hairs waxing will thin the hairs and can eventually stop hair growth entirely. If you decide to go this route (much cheaper then lazer), then you will have to use the vitamin E afterwards to help prevent ingrown hairs. More then likely that is what it is, ingrown hairs that have scarred over. Altho, it wouldnt hurt to see a doc about it, just to ensure its nothing else.

This is the strangest thread I have ever read. Go find yourself a babe of a doctor. Then show up for your first appointment, drop your pants, and ask her, "You ever seen anything like this before?"

Maybe you should stop shaving down there. Other than that, see post #7.

I used to shave the genital area, and never really saw this problem. Your skin there just may be getting so irritated, I'd definitely go see the doctor.

Wow. I thought this kind of "healing" defense phenomena was more common. No one has had keloids anywhere?

I was afraid to look up treatment, and now I know I had good reason to be.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keloid

"Keloids expand in clawlike growths over normal skin. They have the capability to hurt with a needle-like pain or to itch without warning, although the degree of sensation varies from patient to patient.

If the keloid becomes infected, it may ulcerate. The only treatment is to remove the scar completely. However, the probability that the resulting surgery scar will also become a keloid is high, usually up 50% or more of a chance."

    Looks like I'm screwed. Fantastic.

    Jim - two things.

First, wikipedia < a trusted medical professional. Go to your doctor, like YESTERDAY.

Second, I've had a keloid on the back of my ear for the past three years after having an ear stud that got infected. Over time, it's gone down considerably and I can't even find it if I were looking for it. I say it's highly likely that you'll have the same happen downstairs. In the meantime, stop shaving and refer to piece of advice #1 - see your doc.

These are far more likely to be cysts or ingrown hairs than keloids. Keloids are actually fairly uncommon, and many so-called "keloids" that result, say, from ingrown hairs or badly healed piercings are often liquid-filled cysts that can be drained, or eventually do go away.

Stop shaving. Use oil/moisturizer. Wait a week or so. If there is no chance in them whatsoever, go see a doctor.

But most importantly, STOP GETTING DAMN MEDICAL ADVICE FROM THE INTERNET.

I doubt they are keloids, I'm betting with cysts or SKIN TAGS.. Cysts/ingrown hairs tend to hurt, and eventually go away and form a lump or get a white head... Why do I say skin tags? I used to shave and started getting these bumps of numb skin that would cluster on my pubic mound, but at the base of the shaft. I fixed it by ripping them all out with some sterile tweezers and not shaving a few months. After wards (no scars, I heal very well) I just decided to trim my mound, and shave my balls and cock-base.. I haven't had a skin tag in a good 3 years.. What is funny is my wife used the razor I used back then to do her pits, and she got a couple of skin tags in her underarm.

I agree with Belail about the internet medical advice.. I don't suggest you rip em out, go talk to a doc.
