The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

facebook started out for colleges and has expanded from there. It's a lot better than myspace IMO... but myspace is cool too.

    Continued...

    Thoughts:
Alright, when I got home from my workout I was so tired and what not that I couldn't really think. So here is what should have been in the thoughts section (nobody probably cares about this anyway, lol) today.

I missed my workout yesterday so I bumped it to today. It was super hardcore, I wasn't even sure if I was gonna complete the first set. It took me about 40 minutes to finish.

When I got to the gym I walked over to "my" power rack but some guys were using it. So I was like, ok I'll just warm up somewhere else and wait for them to finish. Well, they took the bar off the pins and put 10 lbs on each side. I was like, are you kidding me? They're in MY squat rack curling!!? But wait, they didn't curl after all... they were wrist curling instead!!! That really pissed me off.

So I walked over and said "hey, why are you guys doing wrist curls in the squat rack?" They said, "to work our forearms." Me - "well the squat rack is for squatting, so you guys can go somewhere else to do that." They looked shocked. I said, you see those dumbells? You can go "work" your little forearms over there. Then they put there heads down and walked away. I then got in the power rack and squatted 1,000 pounds....

What really happened - I waited for them to finish .

I like your log, but why again do you have TWO of them?
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

    LiftingKid - Thanks, me too

Coke - Thanks, and now I have to go to the gym in a few hours to do 4 x 9 x 200

Jed - Thanks, and thanks for the Myspace add too man!

    Cirino - Thanks bro

BearWolf - , that's what I did in my head, haha. Yes, I haven't been eating at all the last few days. I ate all the food! It's ok though cuz my mom went shopping yesterday .

Sensei - , because one of them is just Smolov. When I finish Smolov, this will be my only journal. So if one day somebody decides to do the Smolov Cycle and they type it in the search, my journal will come up and they can see how I did and what to and what not to do. My journal comes up on google too if you type in anything about Smolov. I thought it was a good idea because I searched and searched to see peoples results and how they did, but I couldn't really find much. So it's mainly to help future Smolovers.

    Nick - Haha, thanks man.

    Smolov - BM 2.1

    Workout:

    Squats
    200 x 9
    200 x 9
    200 x 9
    200 x 9

    Bench Press
    205 x 5
    235 x 3
    255 x 3

    Seated Millies
    115 x 8

    Thought:
I thought I was gonna die doing squats. I'm not even kidding, those were the hardest things I've ever done in my life. I finished up the last set (took me like 5 minutes) and after I racked it, my back was numb. I stood there to let the feeling come back then I just laid on the floor for like 10 minutes. Smolov is a crazy a$$ mofo. Pretty good bench press afterwards though.

You need to max on bench soon... the 265 on your signature is annoying me. We all know you can do more than that.

    North - Thanks, definately

Redfury - , maybe I'll try sumthin on saturday or monday

    SupRsmall
    - About the same as the videos I posted. I've had only a handful of shallow ones throughout the program.

And while we're on the subject... I've developed a new technique when I squat and I'm wondering if it's good or bad. I lower myself at a slow to medium pace, and right when I hit parralel I drop an inch or 2 lower really fast and pop out of the hole. It's sort of like a whiplash thing. Anybody else do this? It just kinda started happening all of a sudden...

I think sometimes people might call that a 'bounce' but I might be mistaken. From what I understand it's not the best for you, cause your bouncing and not using your muscles to do the whole lift. But either way, killer squats man...

PS: have you ever tried super squats?

It's not legal in a meet, but some people (even I) have done these for full squats, although they are very hard on your knees and ligaments. I wouldn't recommend them... if they're giving you a higher probability of being injured, why do them that way?

Oh, and I liked your story about the wrist curlers. I was like, "Wow, he really squatted 1000 lbs. and put those punks to shame!" and then, "oh wait..."

    105 x 8
    90 x 8 --> 60 x 8 --> 30 x 8

    Thoughts:
There's something wrong with my ham/glute. Taking a few days off from squatting. Actually, I'm getting pretty bored with lifting. I'm thinking of switching to a more bodybuilding style... even though I cringe at the thought. My arms were blasted after the workout. And on the bench press, I can't handle that much weight on my own, I didn't have a spotter today.

    Story:
Here's a story. I walked over to curl and this pretty buff guy, about my age, was doing some triceps stuff. Well after my first set of curls I sat down and he comes over and starts to curl... directly in front of me. His butt was pretty much in my face. So I get up to move and he walks over to grab the 35s ( again, right by me) and curls. Soooooo, I go to the other side of the dumbell rack to get the 45s and go back over to him. I got up, stood right next to him and started curling. I bet he liked having a little guy like me curling more than him in front of his girlfreind. (I'm assuming this was all to impress her). Just thought I'd share this w/ you guys since it made me laugh afterwards .
