The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I finally found another power lifter that goes to my gym! I didn't talk to him though, I'm not even sure if he's really a powerlifter. He was squatting 400+ and then he was doing SLDLs, then he was doing leg curls, lol, what a coincidence. My training partner should be joining WBB soon, he's just starting out.
Leg curls are used as a shaping exercise. And sometimes the extra sets are good for your muscles. I'm sure you already know this, since you do them, and I am thinking that the coincidence is that y'all did practically the same workout.

Shark - Ya, it was pretty much the same exact workout.

I just did leg curls at the end cuz my hammies are way behind my quads.

The first post in my journal, lol.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______

Hey guys, I'm starting my very first journal so feel free to leave me a post whenever you visit. I'd appreciate all of the criticism and tips you guys might have. I'm 16 years old, 141 lbs, and 5'7". I'm in my 3rd year of weight lifting and my current 1RMs are as follows:

    Bench Press - 230 lbs
    Parallel Squat - 225 lbs
    Dead Lift - 250 lbs

My goals are primarily to get stronger, but I am also trying to gain as much lean body mass as I can. Here are some of my goals that I will try to achieve by August 20, 2007, which is the first day of school next year.

    GOALS:
    Body Weight - 165 lbs
    Bench Press - 275 lbs
    Parallel Squat - 315 lbs
    Dead Lift - 365 lbs

Those are just goals to be set by August 20. I plan on going much, much further than those in the future.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______

I figure w/ the progress I've been making, I'll hit those goals in ~3 months or so. Next set of goals will be somethin' like: B-305 , S-365 , D-405 : to be done by around late September.

I think you're seriously overtraining on the lower body dude. That's why you felt you had no energy.

Weight - 148.5 (meet on saturday so I dropped weight)

    Workout: Speed

    Bench Press
    135 x 3
    135 x 3
    135 x 3
    135 x 3
    135 x 3
    135 x 3
    135 x 3
    135 x 3

    Incline DB
    35 x 8
    50 x 8
    60 x 8
    60 x 13

    Weighted Dips
    BW+35 x 8
    BW+35 x 8
    BW+35 x 8

    Face Pulls
    4 sets of 10

Weighted Sit Ups w/ 50 lbs.
    4 sets of 10

    Thoughts:
Ok... speed bench sucks. If any powerlifters see this, am I doing that right? 10x3 at 50% of my 1RM? And then after those, do I keep concentrating on speed in my other lifts, or just go back to normal? This was my first speed benching day.

Aw dont be concious, I flashed my tits for all the world to see on youtube
Being a strong teenager means nothing.

My wrists hurt, but some people don't have wrists to be sore. My knees have tendinitis, but some people don't have legs to get tendinitis in. I seem to be going backwards with training, yet some people can't even walk let alone lift 400 pounds on a daily basis.

Dust out the vagina, and keep on lifting.

My 2 cents, only do 8x3, bump up to 60%, and go back to normal lifting for the rest of your lifts.

    Nice work.

Bruteman - Thanks, I'll bump it up to 60% 4m now on.
RedFury - Lol, it's one of the perks of bein a mut, (1/2 mex and 1/2 white). I can get a decent tan haha.
Fuzz - Well if you showed yours I guess I have to show mine. I'll try to get some pics on Friday.

    "Extra Workout"

    Workout:

    Triceps Press Down (straight bar)
    90 x 10
    105 x 10
    105 x 10
    120 x 10

Side Bends with Weight (each side)
    BW+25 x 12
    BW+35 x 12
    BW+35 x 12

    Face Pulls
    4 sets of 10

    Thoughts:
I read on Westside Barbbell that it's alright to do 1-2 extra workouts a week and it won't cause overtraining. Workout lasted 25 minutes. Weight is 148, perfect for Friday's weigh in for my competition on Saturday. Btw, give some love to my new training partner, Bako Stud.

    Thursday, April 26

    One of those days

    Workout:

    Squats
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    205 x 5
    225 x 5
    235 x 2

    Speed Pulls (sumo)
    135 x 1
    135 x 1
    185 x 1
    225 x 1
    225 x 1
    235 x 1

    Barbell Rows
    100 x 8
    115 x 8
    125 x 8
    100 x 8

    Hyper Extensions
    +25 x 10
    +35 x 10

    Thoughts:
Well, today was just one of those days. I felt weak and tired, that 235 DL was pretty tough. And squats were bad too. My weight is down to 147 from 153, I just wanted to get down to 148.5 for my competition on Saturday, but the weight loss is killin' me. I don't think I'm gonna go now, I doubt I'll match any of my PRs, and besides, it's the NFL Draft on Saturday. I can't miss that.

dont let it get to you...keep that weight up.

SupR - I did 235 for DL too, and ya, drawbacks do suck
LiftinKid - Ya, I'm never cutting weight again, just gonna bulk up to the 165 class and settle there for a couple years.

    Weight - 150 (woot woot!)

    Workout:

    Bench Press
    135 x 6
    135 x 6
    185 x 5
    205 x 3
    225 x 1
    245 x 3 PR (I think I could've got another, but I was specifically trying a 3RM)

    Skull Crushers (behind my head)
    65 x 8
    75 x 8
    85 x 5

    Incline Dumbbell Press
    50 x 8
    60 x 8
    70 x 8
    80 x 7 PR!

    1 Arm Dumbbell Rows
    40 x 8:8
    60 x 8:8
(only felt it in arms so I stopped)

    Thoughts:
Weight's back up to 150 which is a relief, I've been paying special attention to my legs and my chest is still out gaining
them, I'm really happy w/ that incline PR. And I can't wait for tomorrow!!!
