The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Lifting and Immune System

So I'm a total newbie. This past week was supposed to be week 3. Early this week I got sick, bad.. pretty much like a real bad cold/almost a flu. This caused me to stop lifting all week, which made me wanna scream. I rarely get sick and I'm wondering if my immune system was compromised by my lifting? If so, I assume its an affliction that will go away as my body adjusts? Thanks.

Your immune system is temporarily weakened in the gym...no matter if you are sick or not. Don't go to a gym when you have a contagious sickness. Ever. It's best to rest when you are sick and then hit the weights again when you're better. Let your body heal itself and fight off the illness. Are you asking if lifting made you sick? Maybe. Maybe not. When you are lifting, it's easier to catch bugs from someone else in the gym (if you work out in a gym). It could've been anything.

I was just curious if lifting put a stress on the immune system. I know I got this crap from someone at work. Man I just want to get back in the gym, seeing the first little bit of progress pumped me up, then I had to get sick just to kick me in the nuts.

Yeah...working out temporarily weakens the immune system. And yes...getting sick can be discouraging...but keep at it, man.
