The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Seated Leg Press

Are these amazingly easy?? I went on this for the 1st time in years last week and could do reps on the bottom weight on the machine. Is it an advantage to be heavy or have long legs on there or have I just got strong hams and thighs?? It does feel like my thighs could be my best muscle when I tense them.

It really depends on the machine, to be honest. If it is a cable machine, it is really near impossible to figure out how much weight you are using. Lets assume for a moment that its a plate loaded sled set at 45 degrees. Then looking at the problem using physics, you are actually only moving about 70% of the weight against gravity (sin 45), and on top of that, you dont have to stabilize since the machine does it for you. Further, you are moving next to none of your own body weight. Once people take these 3 things into account, it tends to explain why they can do SO much more on leg press than a squat.

It was 50kg other day but I am out of shape and that was 1st time in years as well. My other weights improved rapdily on 2nd and 3rd tries since going back the gym and I am hoping it will be the same for the squats.

If its easy then switch to a lift that you find challenging, then you have more room to progress.
