The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

My fisrt Olympic day... I had to brag!

    Excerpt from my journal.

    April 1, 2007

    OLYMPIC DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    power snatches:
    barx10
    30/66x3
    40/88x3
    50/110x3
    60/132x3

    Power clean and jerks:
    barx10
    40/88x3
    50/110x3
    60/132x3
    70/154x3

    Olympic squats:
    80/176x3/3/3/3/3 FULL ATG.

Some very very painful ab work... oh god.

    Notes:
Ok, i contacted the head Oly coach, told him about myself. Long story short, first time today!!! Im so happy, I had such a great time.

The guy said I had an incredibly natural technique and liked how easily I was grasping all of it. He was the type that could compliment you whilst making you feel weak, hes an amazing coach and Im looking forward to much more work with him.

He was very happy, and has offered me a full scholarship at SASI (south aus sports institute) and im definitely going to take it.

Thats it for me now, Oly lifting and rowing. Im putting my faith in this guy and completely dropping the PL type work in favour of this.

For the most part were gonna be dissing deadlifts (tear*) and (edit:>>) NO more low bar squatting.

    This could be big!

Being a strong teenager means nothing.

My wrists hurt, but some people don't have wrists to be sore. My knees have tendinitis, but some people don't have legs to get tendinitis in. I seem to be going backwards with training, yet some people can't even walk let alone lift 400 pounds on a daily basis.

Dust out the vagina, and keep on lifting.

Nice! I used to think I wanted to be a bodybuilder, then i thought I wanted to be a powerlifter, now I know what I really want is to put heavy stuff over my head.

    Good work mate.
What do you mean dissing deadlifts? I've looked at a couple of oly style workouts and none of them seemed to have full deads, usually only romanian deads, with most of the floor pulling being in the form of snatches and cleans. What do you mean by low bar squats as well?

Yeah, its only RDLs.. no old school pulling, definitely no sumo

And low bar vs hig bar, resting it on the read delts as opposed to the traps. The first is a powerlifter stance, done with a wider spacing and much more lower back intensive and ROM shortening, were as high bar oly style, anrrower stance, bar on the traps more quad.

That's what I thought, but then wouldn't you be doing more high bar squatting, as that's what I see oly lifters train with?

Tiiight. Welcome to the world of OLY lifting. One of the greatest sports in the world. One of my new goals now is to stay ahead of you as long as possible. My best Snatch is 76 (but I didn't max out), my best C+J is 95 (but my knee was hurt now its better and I haven't maxed out). I don't know how long I'm going to be able to hold you off though...
    snatch: 185
    Bench: 245
    Clean: 245
    Jerk: 275x2
    C+J: 245
    TANDEM C+J: 442
    Weight:148.5
    Need to weigh: 62kg
    Body fat: 6.3%
Goal for State: 255 Bench, 260 C+J. and 205 snatch for OLY

    Im after you boy!!!!

I get a heavy session tonight hopefully, before we take the weights down and do some serious form work for a month, then well test the big weight again.

Raw power + Form = Scary. Good luck with OLY. I was reading Australia's Rankings system for its lifters, I would be a B in the 62's. Do you guys have school-age lifting there like America? If you do you would probably win with no competition.

Pfft. Clean pulls are way better than sissy deadlifts. Snatch grip deadlifts are probably a go too, at least once in a while.
