The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    ME bench

    *TKE's & BW reverse hypers*

    2 board:
    bar x 8 (full range)
    135 x 5 (full range)
    185 x 3
    205 x 3
    225 x 3 x 2
    245 x an easy single

    JM press:
    95 x 10
    115 x 10
    135 x 8

    Fry DB presses:
    50's x 10
    60's x 2 x 8

    CSR:
    1 plate x 10
    2 plates x 10
    3 plates x 10

    reverse pec dec:
    60 x 10
    90 x 10
    105 x 10

    20 min elliptical

did a few doubles on the 2 board to get some more time under the weight. the 245 was easy, i probably could have gotten 275, but i didn't want to miss a weight, plus i knew i had some more tricep work ahead of me. a bit more volume for the triceps, but i think it will pay off when i get in a shirt.

    DE squat/DL

    *foam rolling, TKE's*

DE squats on 14 in box, all sets done with doubled mini's & viking briefs:
    bar x 3
    135 x 2 x 2
    185 x 2 x 2
    225 x 2 x 2
    245 x 2 x 2

    Dimmel deads:
    135 x 15
    185 x 15

    reverse hypers:
    25 plate + choked mini x 10
    25 plate + choked light x 10
    45 plate + 2 choked lights x 10

farmers walks, 100 lb fat handle DB's until i dropped em'

    hangman abs, blue, 3 x 10

    20 min elliptical

    form was on today.

speed felt good on the squats, then again it should have, it wasn't anymore than 350 lbs at the top on the last 2 sets. couldn't get the tension right on the reverse hypers, i used to do them with bands but haven't in awhile. at least now i have an idea of where to go next time.

Were your mini's doubled or just choked around the bottom of the squat rack? If they were indeed doubled, it's a good bit more than 350 at the top (which isn't necessairly a bad thing)

Doubled minis add 90lbs at the top for benching, squatting your range of motion is a lot higher so the tension is higher

they were doubled. i just kind of counted them as 100 lbs at the top, because i didn't want to do a bunch of thinking, LOL.

you are right though...i know doubled minis at something like 80-90 pounds at the top of a bench, (hell, its probably 100 for me) so they probably added what, maybe 130 pounds at the top?

thats definetely a good thing...all sets felt very fast today

Oh, and Travis, i've been meaning to take a picture of the reverse hyper we have in the commercial gym...its hilarious looking, and probably screaming for another lawsuit. if you see Jean Forgastch, ask her about it.

I'm surprised the viking briefs let you get down on the 14" box... you wear them loosely with the belt? And yeah, it's probably a bit more than 100 lbs. at the top. Nice.

You really like those reverse hypers it seems. I enjoy them, too, but our machine kind of sucks for it. The pads dig into your groin and make you sore for days afterwards (yeah I know, "that's what she said" LOL). What kind of reverse hyper do you guys use?

    Guido,

I believe we have the same crappy reverse hyper "machine" at our gym. I dont bother using it much because, well, it's not a real reverse hyper, and it doesnt have the same traction effect on your lower back as the real one does.

    Lones,

Arent you a tall bastard? A 14" box for me would be 3-1/2 inches below parrallel at 6'4". Maybe I need more padding back there?

Ours does that too. Vicki and I complain about it digging right into our pubic bone. Not the most comfortable feeling. Oh, we work out with Lones that is why I am answering about the machine. The pad is real square and flat and would probably work better if it was a little rounded.

i'll get a picture of it for you.

and it does feel a lot less effective than a regular reverse hyper, but its better than nothing for sure. this one is just plain awkward, 2 plates on it x 10 reps is hard, while i can do 6 or 7 plates on the regular westside reverse hyper x 10 reps. it just kind of puts you in a weird position, i'm always complaining about it.

LOL. i am 6'3. at cell block we measured my depth a long time ago, and with the 12 inch box, 2 1 inch boards on top of it puts me right below parallel. an 11-12 in box + a 100 lb plate usually puts me right there at the commercial gym.

i squat pretty low for a big guy and a stance as wide as i have, and i might start using a bit higher box because i am getting rid of my forward lean, making my depth higher. even with a slight forward lean, my ass shoots the hell up, making me have to squat much lower to LOOK like i am at depth. in reality, i would be 2-3 inches below parallel and look like i'm just getting below parallel. i think with my new form i will be able to squat higher...which is a good thing.....
