The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

It's a different way to work your lower back. It's easier to get into position as well

Get some tight compression shorts or Under Armour boxers to help keep certain areas tight (or get a real box ). Personally I think you could use a little more time out of the briefs with your lighter squatting, so at least stay out of them for your assistance stuff.

No briefs?! What are you thinking?

I squat how Brent tells me to, and try to make due with what I have at the commercial gym

Absolutely, you should definitely listen to what Brent tells you about your training rather that some random guy on the Internet. Wearing equipment for all speed days just seems a bit counter to the Westside basic principles of building your raw strength to become stronger in the equipment, particularly at your age and health, although I honestly don't know if I've ever seen a specific mention of equipment vs. raw in any of Louie's writings on speed squatting.

I can understand where you're coming from. To be honest, for speed days, normally I'd use my loose briefs (2 sizes too big)... which give me just a bit of support. I've been using my tighter briefs lately just so I can get used to em' before this meet. I'm actually not even doing any speed squats up until the meet because the rack at the commercial gym messes with my form too much. I've been working the hell out of my technique with just a few work sets... This is one of the biggest meets of my life coming up in just a few weeks, I need to get my form nailed.

After this meet it'll be back to more work sets, more loose briefs, and no suit.

They feel good right now. I plan on icing them a bit more tonight.

I might have to bench raw this upcoming session, possible lack of help, but other than this saturday I have 2 more heavy bench sessions that could both be in the shirt.

    Let me know.

Actually bud, I'd just let it go. Work on your raw strength. Carpet press with some pin presses (top 3-4in) for reps, then 3brd with bands and on your last heavy workout, maybe paused floor press.

You already know what your opener is going to be so all the guess work is out of the game. You're good to go. If you really really want to get in the shirt once more, do it next week, not this week. Give yourself a little break before jumping back into it.

Keep those calories up, you're really workin hard and your body is going to be taxed. I think you're going to have a lot of fun though at the meet!

    ME Squat @ Cell Block

14 in box squats w/17 in Cambered bar:
    *pro briefs*
    bar x 3
    155 x 3
    245 x 3
    335 x 2
    395 x 2
    445 x 2
    *suit bottoms*
    485 x 1
    505 x 1

    Reverse hypers:
    4 plates x 10
    4 plates x 10
    4 plates x 10

    3/4's ROM GHR's
    BW x 8
    BW x 8
    BW x 8

    Hangman abs, green, 3 x 10

Form is dialed in. Brent and Keith both told me not to change a thing. Bar weighs something like 62 lbs, and we added the big collars at some point so the weights are probably all wrong, but there close. My weights all felt good and I didn't have any problem with coming up with any of them.

Hit an opener next week at Cell Block...things seem to be falling into place. *knock on wood*
