    close grip bench on smith?

    what are the cons of useing a smith machine for close grip bench?
    also is it unaffective with military press?

    Here are the instructions for properly using a smith machine;

    Step #1: Don't


    If you cant find a spotter when you need one, go use the power rack.

    I find nothing wrong with using the smith machine for military press. when i dont have a spotter i use it everytime.
    bench: 240
    squat: 260
    deadlift: 300

    height:6'
    weight:183 (12%bf)

    If you absolutely HAVE to, use a machine. Use a power rack, just like Rusty said, or use lower weight and do higher reps.

    Reverse the question:

    What would make a Smith Machine more effective (better) than the same lift with a barbell in a power rack or with a good spotter.

    I can't think of anything.
    Squats work better than supplements.
