    Sled Dragging

    I LOVE SLED DRAGGING more on that later though..

    Squat Day

    Parallel squats
    225x3
    235x3
    250x3 (vid)

    Front Squats
    165x5 (vid)
    165x5
    165x5

    Calf Raises
    345x5
    345x5
    345x5 + 345x5 + 345x5

    Good workout. I got 2 vids today just for form check. My legs were really pumped after this but me and my buddy decided to go do sled drags

    Sled Dragging

    90lbs x 140yards (full speed)
    90lbs x 140yards (120yd full speed, 20yd walk)

    Couldnt complete my last set. I felt like I was gonna throw up, was really dizzy and had to lay down. Next time I will bring a stop watch so we can time ourselves. I have to say sled dragging is one of the hardest things I have ever done running wise. I had to come home and just put the shower on and lay down for 20 minutes. I recommend dragging to EVERYONE no matter what your sport. I could hardly walk after this and I didnt even do that much, although it was after a heavy leg session. I'm gonna talk to anthony to see what he does during his sled dragging routines. I just cant get over how hard this **** was. Honestly it just goes to show how bad my cardio is.

    What do you guys do as a sled dragging routine? We kinda just jumped right into it. Probably shoulda done some warmups with lighter weight but I figured I was already warmed up from my leg workout.

    Do it just like a routine, work up to a weight.

    Try HIIT with your sled.

    What do you use as a harness? I'm going to make a sled this summer for sled dragging as well..

    i have been wanting to try this but i dont have a sled. anybody know what i can use as a sled or where to get 1? cheers

    I just have about a 5 yard rope tied to a fairley large tire. I tie the other end of the rope to a weightlifting belt.

    It gets the job done I suppose for me atleast.

    I just made one using a tire with a board shoved in the middle with a pipe attached to stack weights on a la someone else's sled on this forum.

    Were you running with the sled? I thought you were just supposed to walk.

    i wouldnt run such long distances
    i would run like 8-10 40s fullspeed and rest about 30 seconds in between
    dosent seem like much but it builds cardio alot faster than you think

    sled pulls are great for any sport especially for speed, acceleration, and leg power.

    why not set a big goal that you cant acheive and get as far as possible than to set a goal you know you can acheive and only get so far

    Ways to make sleds:

    -buy one (check Elite FTS)
    -get an old tire, screw a piece of plywood onto the bottom, and an eye-bolt through the tread
    -wheelbarrow or kids wagon with undercarriage taken off
    -sandbag
    -tie together a bunch of weight plates

    Implements:

    -Harness (take about 10' feet of rope, tie the ends together. Pinch the rope together in the center - like a figure 8 - fold it back over. Take another small piece of rope, tie it from pinched point to sled. Slip your arms through loops - wrap towels around it to keep from digging into your shoulders too much)
    -Harness II (get a length of rope. Tie one end to your sled. Tie the other to an old backpack. Put backpack on.)
    -Handles (same directions as first one above, but before you tie ends of rope together, slip a couple pieces of PVC pipe on. Make sure you have one on each side.)


    Movements:

    This is only limited by your imagination. I once wrote an entire manual on sled/weight dragging and all the different movements you could do. Basically any exercise you can do in the gym, you can figure out a way to do dragging.

    Also - you can go light for distance for aerobic conditioning, relatively heavy for short distance for more anaerobic conditioning, or fairly heavy for even shorter distance for strength/power.

    Another thing - dragging is one of the SAFEST forms of training out there. If the weight gets to heavy, drop the handles. Nothing locking you into a fixed movement pattern. No ballistic shock to the body. It's great for rehab...

    Why? I know plenty of guys who pull a sled upwards of 600ft. A lot of sled pulling is done as restoration and for a bit of GPP work. It doesn't have to to turn into a anaerobic puke fest. As far as sprinting with one, you could do it, but it throws your running form all to ****.

    You can also talk to a local welder to build you one. I found a welder that advertised on CL. The sled costed me $75 + can of paint. Bonus: No shipping

    Thanks for all the replies.

    I use my pling belt as my harness just on a looser setting. I did another session today and then went for a nice swim after. It was great. I tried to go to a metal shop and get the guy to weld a piece of 2'' pipe onto a sheet of aluminum but he said no dice. So for now im using the wood one i have. Its already cracking but owell.

    Why did you want aluminum? Steel would be heavier, stronger and cheaper.

    btw, the tire idea works great, too, so when the wood does break...
