The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Why did you pick your major

For those going into college, why did you pick the major you currently have. It doesn't really matter the reason although a "I don't know" isn't the response I'm looking for. Something like, it pays well or I really enjoy it etc. is better. The reason I ask is that for the longest time I had no clue what I would do with myself. I'm equally interested in psychology, biology, criminal justice, and athletic training. I decided against athletic training simply because it doesn't pay well and I would hate to have to work with idiot people the whole time. Like when they blame me for not losing weight yet they cheat on their diet. My uncle was interested in Biology and said that the job market is sketchy at times since you usually work from project to project (your work is usually funded by grants). Finally I chose against psychology because certain aspects of it are unbelievably depressing. Like, when you go through different mental disorders. That stuff sucks.

I chose criminology because the job market is strong. You always have people killing each other. The market is in high demand, the pay is pretty well once you get your degree and move up and finally I think their alot of injustices in the world that happen when they shouldn't. I also think catching the bad guys is cool

So list whatever major (s) interest you.

I got a BSEE last may. Sounded fun. Little did I know I would be doing paperwork and surfing the net all day. Pay is decent, but not great.

As a bit of background, I met my best buddy in 8th grade playing Magic: The Gathering. Then, I went to college and studied Chinese because I thought it would be neat to speak Mandarin to his parents when I hung out at his place. I loved the language, so I went and lived in China.

That's the story of how Magic: The Gathering taught me Chinese. God works in mysterious ways...

I will probably minor in biology actually just because I love the subject. Biology was a close second, all that stuff about dominant/recessive genes and cytoplasm is COOL.

    Well said.
Next year im also going into chemistry. I enjoy blowing **** up, playing with chemicals is dangerous (my middle name ) and fun.

Although I am considering pharmaceuticals. Perhaps managing several pharmacies or doing research for a big company and going up in the ranks to make alota moola.

Or I can become a doctor of pharmaceuticals so I can not only perscribe drugs, but sell them. Im gonna be a pusher man

Well as I discovered, you actually blow things up fairly rarely. I have only one fire under my belt (but, I must say.. watching water light on fire is pretty sick). But yeah, I thought I was gonna get to play with dangerous things.

    Because I enjoy it.

I took political science and sociology classes because they are fun and I have always been interested in the two. So I figured, why not major in both. I just graduated from college and plan to go to law school and hopefully followed by grad school. Do I know what I want to do when I'm done with that? No. But as long as I enjoy my job, I'll be happy. I've seen too many people make a decision based on money and hate their jobs.

I have two degrees...one in Graphic Design and one in Information Systems. Both interested me and I'm good at them. Little did I know that I'd grow to hate actually using either one in a career-type environment.

I was going into fire school. I had an asthmatic attack during a test and now I am back to school for accounting. I like money, always have, always will. Decided that dealing with money and learning the holes in with taxes and the such would be of great benefit to me.

I majored Kinesiology with a certification in teaching. I wanted to teach the youth of tommorw about thier health, how to be healthy and why it matters. I also wanted to coach basketball and football and if possible move up to the colligiate levels in coaching or S & C.

My parents were teachers and my wife teaches 1st grade.....

I'm a History Education major. I picked it because when I chose it, I wanted to teach history. Now I'm in it because I'm too invested to switch. I plan on going back to active duty when I'm done with college.

Physics - I had great teachers in high school, really was interested in the material.. almost switched majors because I didn't do so hot in one of the classes, but stuck with it and did well in the rest of the classes so it turns out I just had 1 really hard teacher. There's tons of options for post graduation,. I realized that I didn't like the research aspect, so I'll be teaching math in a private high school for a couple years and probably at least get my masters. If I like it, I'll stick with it.

Not trying to persuade you to not go into criminology, but my dad worked in corrections for 20 some years and he just hated it and it ate away at him. He ran a work release program and I think just dealing with scum (not everyone who goes into jail are scum, but obviously a large majority are) all the time just gave him a negative view on a lot of things. He retired as soon as he possibly could and is now much happier.. hah the people at his new job said they couldn't believe he used to make prisoners cry by yelling at them because he seems like such a nice guy.

Going for a major in Nutrition...what I'm going for requires a PhD. I just want to help people reach their goals and was thinking of writing a few books or something. Maybe I could write a diet book that would be revolutionary. I'd call it "Put Down the Fork" and for those hard gainers I'd write a follow up volume called "Pick Up the Fork". I don't know if I'm going to end up pursuing this, though. It's a lot of friggin' school.

    1. Apply for Bsc. Kinesiology and Bsc. Biomedical Science.

    2. Enroll Bsc. Biomedical Science since entrance requirements were higher and the first year courses for Bsc. Kinesiology were the same as Biomedical Science.

    3. Volunteer at a hospital and find out I do not want to work in a Biomedical Science related field.

    4. Find out that Bsc. Kinesiology is not at all similar to a BA kinesiology/Phys ed. degree. and that no BA kin/phys ed is offered by my school.

    5. Become rediculous alcoholic.

One of my roommates majored in A-Train and already had a job before graduation making 50+ year. Granted, that may not seem lik big bucks to some people, but when most of my friends are making under 30k starting, it seems pretty good. It's also better than those people who end up working at Target after graduating college and couldn't find a job.

Every job has the potential to make big bucks. Do more research on job possiblities. I think you will be surprised.

But I'm the exception).
Poli Sci for life! Poli sci is one of those degrees that doesn't really have a specific job market. The only way to get a job (I'm finding) is to get an internship and hope that they hire you. Luckily, I'm going on to law school and then hopefully grad school after that, so no worries about jobs yet.

In other words, every major can be said to have problems finding jobs or not being paid well. I know a person that finished med school and can be a full time doctor, but can't find a job because the job market in his area doesn't need more and can't move. It's up to you to do the leg work and find those great jobs that pay well.
