    Anyone else do this and is it okay?

    When I am in caloric deficit whenever I feel hungry I start either chewing gum or usually Ice Breakers mints and just keep them in my mouth. Sometimes I eat alot of them but there 0 cals and keep me occupied. Is this okay and is it a good idea anyone else do it?

    When I wrestled in high school I did the same thing. It helps keep the hunger away for awhile. There's no problem at all.

    You might want to watch out for the mints. I'm pretty sure they have a few calories each. Gum, unless it's sugar free, usually has about 8- 10 calories per stick too, but you can chew it a lot longer.

    They are allowed to round down on calories. Each mint probably has 2-3 calories, so be aware of that.

    even sugar free gum has cals. Sugar alcohols do have an effect on insulin levels.

    And FYI, Sugar Alcohols (Sucralose, etc.) usually have a maltodextrose molecule bound to them. Splenda for example, "Though marketed in the U.S. as a “No calorie sweetener,” Splenda contains 96 calories per cup.[5] This is one-eighth the 770 calories in the same volume of sugar." - WP

    So even though it is way less than sugar, still has some calories.

    Food for thought.

    sucralose isn't a sugar alcohol is it, it's an artificial sweetener? isn't sugar alcohols more like xylitol or maltitol?

    Sucralose = Splenda

    It is chlorinated sugar.

    FWIW, chewing gum and mints probably don't do you any favors when you're hungry. They initiate the cephalic phase of digestion, meaning the rest of your system starts getting geared up to digest food that isn't really on the way. IOW, your stomach thinks you eating, but you're not. It may work for you, IDK. Just some extra info.

    It doesn't work for me if I really am hungry. If I'm just bored and want to eat, chewing gum is perfect. If you're hungry, your body wants food; so I wouldn't think that gum would calm that.

    Soprano = The Sopranos
    And no, my life does not revolve around the tv.
