    Guild Wars anyone?

I have over a month to kill and im looking for something to do. I play guitar alot and go to the gym but theres only so much squatting and jamming one can do. Ive been reading up that Guild wars is an excellent game with no monthly fees.

Any of you play this game? If so do you recommend it?

I played it for a while and liked it. Key is to get into an active guild with like-minded folks.

I haven;t played in a while and thinking of reloading it.

I was going to get into Lord of the Rings online but realized it sucks so here I am waititng for the next MMORPG (Conan or Warhammer)

Well I assume you need to pay monthly for those.

And I know there are expansions out, but do I need to buy the original to use the expansions? Or do the expansions come with the original?

I believe there are now 3 continents and I think they can stand alone but you can't go to another continent if you don't own the pack.

I'd check to be sure but I'd probably start with the first one any how.

If you have any suggestions go ahead.
Im already playing guitar and goin to the gym (although lately iv ebeen having some wrist problems so ive been laying off both for the time being).

Im so bored that I routinely go on wikipedia and click random elements on the periodic table to learn random knowledge.

Did you know Einsteinium was discovered in 1952 after the first Hydrogen bomb explosion? It apparently was created by the addition of 15 neutrons during the explosion. The question is, where did that extra 7 protons cmome from?

    Im desperate as you see.

If I had invested even 1/5 the time in improving my physical condition or furthuing my education I'd be a lot better off them I am right now.

There is nothing wrong with video games, but if your using them just to consume tons of free time then there are more rewarding ways to spend that time.

My 5 year old son likes when we play Marvel Alliance together on the 360 because he gets to be the guys he sees in the Xmen movies and he makes me play Colossus cause he seems to have this delusion that I'm super strong cause I lift weights (and I'm daddy).

Time well spent IMO even if it's just playing games..

Just like anything in life it's all in moderation but as far as video games specifically there's nothing wrong with them. I can see the WOW and EQ freaks really taking things to the extreme where it impacts their social lives - but as a whole video games are fine.

Hell I think staring at the Tv for hours is alot worse - and come September I do a TON of that every Sunday and Monday.

    Guild Wars is... ok.

I didn't really get that into it, but it seems solid and the story was decent despite some terrible voice acting.

The PvP is fun as hell.

I like Guild Wars. Factions and Nightfall as well as the original can all be played independently, and Eye of the North is a traditional expansion of Guild Wars 2.

The PvE is alright, gets kind of monotonous after a while if you don't become an expert quick, but the PvP and the arena battles in PvE (which are PvP battles) are endless fun.

I really didn't like Guild wars at all. I only wanted to play the coperative part of it to build up my skills. Just certain aspects of the gameplay really annoyed me. Like you have to walk around the entire map to get down to a lower part of the terrain. You can't simply step down a small ledge you have to walk around the entire map.

At first it was cool but I consider it a genuine waste of money.

Yes, a lack of a z axis was competely bull**** in this day and age. It bugged the hell out of me as well.

Not a great game, but not a bad one for bumming around teaming up with people from all over. Not that I ever teamed, really, but I understand you could.

Guild Wars was alright, i played for a month and then sold it for WoW and wasted 1200 hours of my life on that game... if it weren't for my WCIII/TFT addiction in the first place, I wouldnt have wasted so much time on it anyways.

But if your looking for something else other than games, I suggest buying an old junker car and fixing it up (if thats your cup of tea). I bought a 68 mustang coupe about a month ago and my dad and I have already put in well over 600 hours in to it.

I don't know about the person that said LotRO sucked, but I got it 3 weeks ago and it beats the **** out of WoW. It's a great game.

I enjoy PVP games. LoTRO is pretty and runs great but I just can't get into a purely PvE game. (Yeah that monster play thing doesn't count in my book)

Looking forward to Warhammer coming out next year.

I'm in the same exact boat as you. Used to play GW in an active guild...quit, started playing WoW. Quit. Played the LOTRO beta...but like you said, the PvP was so limited in that game. Monster Play? Wtf? So, yeah, I'm also waiting for Warhammer now...and Hellgate: London. That looks tight.

And to whoever said video games is a waste of time, most people spend hours watching TV or even posting on forums. Why are video games any different? It's just another way to enjoy yourself.

I can respect wanting to get in some hardcore PvP. I guess LotRO really fits me because PvP has never really been my thing. Well, let me take that back. Back in the good old days of UO, PvP was rockin' because it was flat out every man for himself. You could essentially be a highway serial killer if you wanted to. All this organized PvP a la WoW just turned me off.

All the same, the environments in LotRO are some of the most immersive and beautiful that I've seen in an MMORPG. Between that, the music and the Tolkien lore, I'm hooked. I think they handled the game well considering how challenging it must be to create a virtual world based around a classic novel without breaking the cultures/lore/plot.

I didn't like the music at all. I'd much rather just mute the sound and listen to Howard Shore's LotR soundtracks while playing.

And about organized PvP in WoW, I don't like it either. It's boring as hell. That's why you play on a PvP server and you CAN be that highway serial killer...especially if you play a Rogue. Fun as hell to gank unexpecting opponents.

The best part is that after you kill the person, (the more dishonorable, the better) you know he's either thinking or screaming aloud: "You son of a bitch! I'm gonna kill you!" But then he never gets his revenge...and ideally you kill him a good 5 more times. This really brings me joy.

Im really into the story rather than the PvP... I guess guildwars isnt exactly for me but im enjoying it so far.

Although the whole P2P thing is gonna bother me if I ever decide to do so.
