    Frustration

I started lifting weights again for 2nd semest of college on WBB1. i made some great progress, gained about 12 lbs. I weighed around 155 going in and now I am 167. Now school is over and my regular weightlifting partner has moved back home for summer, and I have nobody to lift with. None of my friends at home will lift with me. I can't stand how lazy they are. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions on how to motivate them to lift with me? Thanks

I've never had anyone to lift with. Go by yourself.

Lift alone. There are machines too.

I don't see what the big deal is. You can meet new people at the gym anyways. The gym I go to is like a bar.

    machines suck

you can still lift heavy without a partner, just ask for a spot if you really need one

    and I'd HATE a gym that's like a bar...I'm there to lift, I don't need distractions

Perhaps he sees familiar faces and says 'Hi' to a bunch of people he's become friendly with, hardly a distraction. It sounds like you interpreted it as him wanting to BS around, check out girls, and laugh about what happened earlier in the day.

yeah, I guess that was my interpretation when he compared it to a bar

whenever I go to a bar I'm really social...I'm friendly in the gym, but I wouldn't compare my actions to being in a bar

I don't like talking to anyone in the gym really. Just concentrate on my lifts then get out of there. I would prefer to not have a lifting partner from my friends because then we would probably just dick around.

People slow you down. Friends are probably the worst. Even when my friends wanted to lift with me they would always slow me down by talking about Bull. I'd rather progress by myself and only have me to blame if I fail.

What I can't stand is the group of "gangster" kids that go to the gym and BS around the whole time. I bet they go there to look cool and possibly pick up some good looking college girls instead of actually improving their crappy physiques. A bunch of them were "fake boxing" (not sure if there is a term for it) each other in the middle of the gym.

But that still doesn't beat the time I saw a kid set the weight on the cable pulldown to a little bit less than his bodyweight, then hang from the pulldown bar and spin around as he slowly lowered to the ground. tuttut .......Maybe this is an exercise I've never heard of

I seriously laughed when I pictured that in my head.

Having a great lifting partner all four years of college was probably the best thing to happen to me. Having lazy friends is probably one of the worst things to happen to me. Lifting partner = motivation. Lazy friends = demotivation.

My advice? Does your gym have a high female population? Give them the promise of hot chicks and they will run to the gym. They will start lifting heavy to get the attention of the women.
    To clear up some confusion:
Blanche = slut on the Golden Girls
    Soprano = The Sopranos
And no, my life does not revolve around the tv.

My partner thought it was funny to keep sneaking 5lbs on and off of one side of my barbell while squatting. Did it for about 1/2 an hour. Then there's the friend who thinks it's so funny to make me laugh in the middle of a heavy bench set. And the friend who bets money that I can't do this or that, and me being $$ hungry, I always take the bet, usually ruining my workout.

I would just go by myself but I sucks not having a spotter.

I have a friend who goes up behind me while squatting really close to my butt to try and make me laugh at him. Not cool.

    LoL

A friend of mine loves to pick on the guys doing curls with a weight that is way too heavy for them and they swing it up, so he grabs the smallest dumbbell he can find (usually a set of 2.5lb blue dumbbells) and mimics the movement right beside them. Itís a good thing he is big or he would get his ass kicked 90% of the time.
