The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I have the worst tension headache known to man right now and I am all out of the following:

    1) Advil.
    2) Morphine.
    3) Personal masseuse.
    4) Shotgun shells.

Damn the shrugs... But my traps look like sex.

Hman, Coke, PL -- thanks for the support.

Well, today sucked for a number of reasons, but I'll post it up anyway. heh. My triceps were still shot from Wednesday so the pressing today was just brutal and I couldn't even match my 5RM that has been standing for 2 weeks. All the turkey in the world couldn't help me recover from that beating I gave myself on Wednesday. Then today at the gym I strained a muscle in my left middle finger of all things which made it pretty much impossible to continue. I also strained a muscle in my lower traps doing the OH pressing, but not real bad. Hardly worth mentioning since I seem to strain something in my trap area every week. The finger hurts. It's just obnoxious. I want to tear it off and put it in the garbage disposal just to spite it. Who needs a middle finger anyway? I can find plenty of other ways to offend my fellow drivers.

One thing I am noticing is that my water intake at home is crappy. At work I drink about 2 gallons of water a day and piss like I've sprung a leak, but at home I hardly ever drink water. I'm putting this in the journal to force myself to correct it. That could explain why I always strain muscles on Saturdays and Sundays.

    Self Abuse

    Chest, Back, Core

    OH Strict Press
    45 x 10
    135 x 5
    135 x 5
    145 x 5
    145 x 5
    155 x 4 + 1 Push Press

You know, now that I look back on it, I did a lot more reps in the 135 to 155 range than I normally do, so I guess this wasn't all bad. It just felt so much harder than it should have.

    Pull Downs
    10 x 8
    12 x 5
    14 x 5
    15 x 5
    16 x 5

Again, I think those #'s represent 15 lb plates. *shrug*

Ab Crunch / Pull Up Supersets
    170 x 8 / BW x 8
    170 x 8 / BW x 8

--- Cue strained middle finger. >.<

Thanks Coke. Luckily I really bounced back from the injuries. Today my finger felt fine and my trap was feeling good too so I went in the gym late tonight and made up for yesterday's pulls that I missed out on.

    Had a good workout today.

Deads, Core, Accessory Leg Work, Biceps

    Deads
    225 x 5
    275 x 5
    295 x 5
    315 x 3 (Regrip) x 2 (5RM PR) (Regrip after 3)
    335 x 1 (Regrip) x 1 (2RM PR)

Gonna get me some chalk and perhaps a belt when I get back from Minneapolis in a couple of weeks and then really turn it up on the pulls. Until then I have to live with the regripping. The pulls themselves are not too hard, but hanging on to that sweaty ass bar with my cut up hands is a chore.

    Double Paused Leg Press
    500 x 8
    590 x 8
    610 x 6 + 2 Normal

Wow, I really thought my head might explode towards the end there. I hate to think what the pressure in my lungs was... I'm surprised I didn't spring a leak like a old air mattress that's seen too many coed camping trips.

    Ab Crunches
    150 x 8
    160 x 8
    165 x 8

    Glute Ham Raises
    BW x 8
    BW x 8
    BW x 8

    DB Hammer Curls
    30's x 8
    40's x 8 (Maybe PR, who cares it's curls...)

    Preacher EZ Bar Curls
    75 x 5
    75 x 5
    75 x 3

All constant tension sets except the deads of course.

Thanks Coke and Darcy. Alright guys... Time to get back in gear. I have not lifted since the last posted workout, which SUCKS! Two weeks without the iron... I feel a longing in my heart.

I have decided to seriously switch things up for a while. I am going to be adjusting my diet to the point where I start recomping and doing frequent, high intensity full-body workouts. Three days a week, full body.

    -------------------------------------

    Monday, Wednesday, Friday:

Bench Press or Incline Bench Press
    2x10 2x5

Standing Overhead Strict Press or Shrugs
    2x10 2x5

    Squat
    2x10 2x5

Straight Leg Deadlift or Glute Ham Raise
    2x10 2x5

    Bent Over Rows
    2x10 2x5

    Face Pulls
    2x10 2x5

    Pull Ups
    2x10 2x5

Possible additions... These movements will only be performed if my energy levels are extremely high and I don't want to quit here. Seems somewhat unlikely.

    Leg Press
    2x5

    Dips
    2x8

    -------------------------------------

So, my plan is to do these full body workouts with a slightly checked diet in order to get the fat loss moving. Specifically, I am going to be carb cycling at first. I may move into full blown UD2.0 mode depending on how I feel once I start leaning out and this first round of dieting stalls.

Starting estimates... I really have no idea and no way of measuring....

Roughly 205 to 210 lbs bodyweight @ 17% bodyfat. I still look relatively lean and defined compared to your average guy. I even have some semblance of abs under there. Mostly because my muscles have grown so much that no amount of reasonable bodyfat can contain them. Time to shed and shred.

So last night / this morning I partied and got good and trashed. I woke up at 6 PM yesterday, made scrambled cheeseburgers on wheat for breakfast and went to the gym with my workout shake in hand. Man, I had no energy at all. I started off on the wrong foot... er, wrist, early on with the benching. Those benches at planet fitness were obviously designed by someone who has never benched heavy. Anyway, I did the workout anyway to the point of exhaustion. I was dead tired and dehydrated.

    Friday December 14th, 2007

    Flat Benchpress
    135 x 15
    185 x 10
    225 x 6
    225 x 3

    Squat
    225 x 10
    245 x 10 PR!
    285 x 5
    285 x 5

    SLDL
    185 x 10
    185 x 10

Food today has been aforementioned scrambled cheeseburger, a bunch of beer, a double cheeseburger and double order of chili cheese fries from Gilley's after the bar (Yeah, it was as good as it sounds on 'paper'!). Hmm, a bunch of peanut butter and Club crackers, some fries at the bar. This is much less than I've typically been eating these days. I am becoming a big boy now with an appetite to match.

So, I've been keeping this journal for a while now, if somewhat sporadically, so I guess a big question is what the hell have I accomplished visually in my "bodybuilding" aspect of my training (Although I am certainly more concerned with overall power).

So anyway, I posted up some comparison pictures. Hopefully not too graphic, but I am warning people anyway that there is definitely some blotted out nudity.

    The thread is here:

So most of my order from EliteFTS came today. I got an elite2 belt (It's thick as hell, holy **** I think I will need a different deadlift belt! Awesome squat belt or bench belt.

I also got metal poly wraps, knee and wrist. Wrists been killing me lately on bench.

And... I got chalk!!!!!!!! And a dipbelt (Which I am waiting for).

    BIG THINGS A COMIN!

They were deemed inappropriate for whatever reason despite the fact that I edited them to be PG rated.

I have been on a slow and steady cut over the past month or two. I will post new pics (That hopefully adhere to the guidelines of the forums) in a while.

    Thanks for stopping by, Lumiel.
