Yea Eminem would be one of them, along with 2pac. I was just referring to the ones that are coming out with music right now. Eminem is basically non existant anymore.

He can't go wrong if he's working with Roger Mayweather, the Mexican Assassin.

Go back and look again. I'ver never been all that impressed with his physique, but I am now. He is significantly bigger than before and has obviously done a few cycles (and for anyone about to have a hissy fit, no, I'm not saying he didn't work hard too).

We tend to think of Sisyphus as a tragic hero, condemned by the gods to shoulder his rock sweatily up the mountain, and again up the mountain, forever. The truth is that Sisyphus is in love with the rock. He cherishes every roughness and every ounce of it. He talks to it, sings to it. It has become the mysterious Other. He even dreams of it as he sleepwalks upward. Life is unimaginable without it, looming always above him like a huge gray moon. He doesn’t realize that at any moment he is permitted to step aside, let the rock hurtle to the bottom, and go home.

To say that you prefer southern rap is one thing. There are a handful of decent rappers from the south and you may just prefer that style of rap. But to claim that Lil Wayne is the best lyricist hands down is pretty unjustifiable.

Granted lyrics are, to an extent, subjective and I never listen to Lil Wayne by choice, but he is not a good lyricist. I've searched through the lyrics of a couple of soungs, at random, and haven't found anything that I would consider decent, let alone good lyrics.

Dude, Go get some of his cd's - The Carter 1 & 2. He wasnt that good when he first came out, but dude is sic now.... Most of his songs on the radio are goign to be more liad back cause they HAVE to appeal to a large audience.

Go get "tha' Carter 1 and 2", and come talk about him again....Also, go on the internet right now and listen to a song Called..."cannon - remix with Lil Wane" His rap is in the very first verse, HE GOES OFF! Really "listen" to what he's saying, ***** is insane.....

I'm not going to buy any of his albums. I can't stand that kind of music. I just want you to point me to one verse, in writting, in which he displays any sort of sophisticated lyrical ability. If you're able to do that I may recant my previous assertion.

First off, I said he is the best lyricist hands down IMO. Dont think so? Ok, thats fine. If you dont like that type of rap, with a "gangsta" feel, then you wont like lil wayne. Basically all he talks about is money, drugs, and women. Typical. But its the way he presents it that is completely unmatched. No one comes close to his style, it is completely his own. I agree with Greekboy, Tha Carter 1 and 2 are classics, but the second one takes it to a whole new level.

You want lyrics? Look up the song Get Over (from the Carter 2) and tell me that you can't consider those lyrics "decent".

This thread is going completely off topic, sorry to the op.

I hate rap, I barely like any rappers anymore most of the songs I have on my computer or old ass songs.
Please do not associate lil wayne with a thug/gangsta cause he's not most rappers these days aren't. Not any mainstream ones anyways. I saw lil wayne in my local mall with these two body guards and he was trying to hit on these girls and I swear to you they started laughing. I'm so sick of rappers claiming their hard and then walking around with 2-3 body guards and ****. Oh well though rappers are into money these days not being real.

Like I said, I know lyrics are subjective to an extent. but it is still possible to objectively obsess. For instance, I can objectively tell you that Shakespeare is a better writer than Tom Clancy, even though I may prefer the work of the latter.

I checked out the song that you suggested. The vast majority of his rhymes are mono-syllabic (there are only a few that are two syllables, and there are no multi-syllabic rhymes in the whole song). He repeatedly rhymes the same words with themselves, and he 'borrows' a lot of rhyming words from other songs.

The content is not creative - he's like every other rapper out there. Although, that's not necessarily a knock against him, since that seems to be what rappers have to do to make any money, but it does detract from his status as the 'best lyricist hands down.'

There is no deeper meaning, and a very limited attempt at symbolism and metaphoar. There is nothing in the song that makes you think.

I don't know what sort of criteria you are using to judge Lil Wayne, but I find it hard to believe that anyone can honestly, and objectively believe that he is the 'best lyricist hands down,' especially considering what a number of other, albeit less well-known, artists are doing.

Anyways, that's not a personal attack on you or Lil Wayne. He's not what I would choose to listen too, but if you like him great. He's obviously doing something right and he has mass appeal. He may also be one of the best lyricists in mainstream hip-hop; I'm not sure, I don't really listen to most of it.

He is a talented rapper and writer, but I wager he borrows a lot from the the best in the game way back when.

All Eyez on Me has some lines that will sound familiar to you. Tupac was the ****. If you watch the Resurrection documentary, see how most of his short time between jail and death was spent in the studio, and then look at how many albums (some of them 2 disc sets) were released after he died, and then listen to/read what he wrote in all that material, I think it puts him ahead of any "lyricists" that are popular today.

^^^ I don't much like to listen to Tupac, but I do think he is one of, if not the most, lyrically gifted rappers.

I, in no way "like" or "respect" what most of the rappers are saying, but they way he uses and integreates the word and meanings is crazy, and very very good! Below is the excerpt from Lil Waynes song - "Cannon"

one hand on ma money, on hand on ma buddy
thas tha AK47 made his neighborhood love me
bullets like birds you can hear them bi*ches hummin
dont let that bird *****, he got a weak stomach
nig*as kno im sick i dont spit i vomit
    got it?
one egg short of the omelette
simon says, shoot a nig*a in his thigh and leg
then tell him "catch up" like mayonaisse

    bet that baby
these other ni*gas kno im wet crack baby, yes
get back get back boy its a set back
clumsy a*s niggas slip and fall into a death trap
them boys pu*sy, born without a back bone
and if you strapped we can trade like the dow jones
wet him up, i hope he got his towel on
i aim at the moon, and get ma howl on
some ni*gas cry wolf, im on that dry cush
and when it comes to that paper i stack books
    you heard what i said
i can put you on your feet or put some money on your head
    life aint cheap
you're better off dead if you cant pay the fee
    shoutout ma ni*ga fee
see every mutha*****a at the door dont get a key
you outside lookin in, so tell me wut u see
its about money its bigger than me
i told ma homiess dont kill him bring tha ni*ga to me, yes
dont miss, you fu*kin wit the hitmen

Thats prefectly fine with me. I dont care if there "real" or not. Its not cool to actually shoot people and sell drugs.

This is the EXACT reason why there are so many problems with society today. Everyone need to "prove" themselves and "be real".

If you have to use a gun or sell drugs you are a COWARD!!!!!

Be a real man and get a real job and be productive in society. Look at Jay-Z. He's got it right. he's been there, done that and he now knows what the "real deal" is...

Most of my comments for the previous lyrics apply to this as well (although, I do think this one is a bit better). The only thing that amounts to any sort of lyrical ability is his simple similes which are the bread and butter of every other rapper out there.

I'm sorry, I just don't see what he's doing that sets him apart from the rest. I will admit that he seems to be alot better than I had initially thought, though.

Its all good man, its all about the opinion. It probably sounds alot better when you hear how he conveys the words too.

I would not call him the best rapper doing it, but he is pretty good, and better than 90 % of the "mainstream" rappers out there. But there are PLENTY of better rapper out there.

And bottom of the line is that its based on opinion. Its like argueing about the best basketball players or football players, You can go on for days.....
