The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Yes, he talks about how he "USE TO". He is usually "dissed" by most rappers who want to battle him because he's not real anymore etc...

    Its a freaking joke...

If you have to use a gun or sell drugs you are a COWARD!!!!!

Be a real man and get a real job and be productive in society. Look at Jay-Z. He's got it right. he's been there, done that and he now knows what the "real deal" is...

    Freaking Idiots piss me off!
While I agree with the first part, I have a problem with the last half of your post. I understand your meaning, but that could have been said a different way. I hope I will never HAVE to use one, but if at some point my gun defends myself and/or my family from say, a burglar or drug addict somewhere, that does not make me a coward.

I am not condoning it, but the only times I ever made a few quick bucks off drugs, I was working a real job and being productive to society. It had nothing to do with proving anything or appearing "hardcore," environment and social conditioning play a huge role in what a person is able to do to make money. Not that rappers should brag about violence or selling crack, or saying in any way that it is a good thing, but calling any such person a coward is a bit much.

Being a good lyricist doesn't make you appeal to a smaller audience. Even then, there's a special name that people call artists who change their style just to appeal to larger audiences.

Good example of a good lyricist doing it big.

Gotcha, and no offence to you, sorry about that, I was just talking about the "hardcore" people who think its cool to "bust caps" or anything of that matter. Its a friggin a disgrace.

The drugs part is kind of a double edge sword. Cause I'm not really mad at the prople who want to smoke a little green on the weekends to relax and such, but any drug that is intended to make you addicted and is associated with nothing but bad, is worthless.

No, being a a good lyricist does not make you appeal to smaller crowds but most of the best are not mainstream. If you do not know that, you really need to study up more.

Kanye is good but he's not great.....I like Kanye a lot, and I have all his Cd's and I wish there were more artists out there like him speaking about positive things and how to be a good person in life. But, that does not make him a great lyricist. He is an GREAT producer, GREAT artist, good lyricist.

In response to the way 50 looks, I think he looks as jacked as ever in his new video, I think he has wheels if you watch the shower seen in his movie.

I checked out the song that you suggested. The vast majority of his rhymes are mono-syllabic (there are only a few that are two syllables, and there are no multi-syllabic rhymes in the whole song). He repeatedly rhymes the same words with themselves, and he 'borrows' a lot of rhyming words from other songs.

The content is not creative - he's like every other rapper out there. Although, that's not necessarily a knock against him, since that seems to be what rappers have to do to make any money, but it does detract from his status as the 'best lyricist hands down.'

There is no deeper meaning, and a very limited attempt at symbolism and metaphoar. There is nothing in the song that makes you think.

I don't know what sort of criteria you are using to judge Lil Wayne, but I find it hard to believe that anyone can honestly, and objectively believe that he is the 'best lyricist hands down,' especially considering what a number of other, albeit less well-known, artists are doing.

Anyways, that's not a personal attack on you or Lil Wayne. He's not what I would choose to listen too, but if you like him great. He's obviously doing something right and he has mass appeal. He may also be one of the best lyricists in mainstream hip-hop; I'm not sure, I don't really listen to most of it.
I dont look into it as how many syllables he has. I do think that he excells at the metaphors and symbolism in his music though. I like a rapper from his lyrics, flow, creativeness, etc. Oh well, everyone enjoys music for their own reasons, and ours obviously aren't the same.

You pretty much said he dumbs his lyrics down in order to appeal to a larger audience. You said he HAS to dumb his lyrics to appeal to a large audience.

Of course the better lyricist aren't as popular, but all I'm saying is you can still be a great lyricist and sell records. Outkast and yes Kanye West are both good examples.

Yes, just like we have to dumb down our advice to newbies about nutrition and weightlifting. I'm not saying its absolutely ness. but plenty of rapper do....and for good reason($$$$$).

What's the point of these lyrics? KFC? Wow, that's a cultural revelation there. Where would the world be without K west? Here's what lyrics look like when the writer puts thought into them.

    I hear Brenda's got a baby
But, Brenda's barely got a brain
    A damn shame
Tha girl can hardly spell her name
(That's not our problem, that's up ta Brenda's family)
Well let me show ya how it affects tha whole community
Now Brenda never really knew her moms and her dad was a
    junky
Went in death to his arms, it's sad
Cause I bet Brenda doesn't even know
Just cause your in tha ghetto doesn't mean ya can't grow
But oh, that's a thought, my own revelation
Do whatever it takes ta resist tha temptation
    Brenda got herself a boyfriend
Her boyfriend was her cousin, now lets watch tha joy end
She tried to hide her pregnancy, from her family
Who didn't really care to see, or give a damn if she
Went out and had a church of kids
As long as when tha check came they got first dibs
Now Brendas belly is gettin bigger
But no one seems ta notice any change in her figure
    She's 12 years old and she's having a baby
In love with tha molester, whos sexin her crazy
And yet she thinks that he'll be with her forever
And dreams of a world with tha two of them are together,
    whatever
He left her and she had tha baby solo, she had it on tha
    bathroom floor
And didn't know so, she didn't know, what ta throw away and
    what ta keep
She wrapped tha baby up and threw him in tha trash heep
I guess she thought she'd get away
    Wouldn't hear tha cries
    She didn't realize
How much tha tha little baby had her eyes
Now tha babys in tha trash heep balling
Momma can't help her, but it hurts ta hear her calling
    Brenda wants ta run away
Momma say, you makin' me lose pay, tha social workers here
    everyday
Now Brenda's gotta make her own way
Can't go to her family, they won't let her stay
No money no babysitter, she couldn't keep a job
She tried ta sell crack, but end up getting robbed
So now what's next, there ain't nothin left ta sell
So she sees sex as a way of leavin hell
It's payin tha rent, so she really can't complain
Prostitute, found slain, and Brenda's her name, she's got a baby

These lyrics actually have a point, they tell some type of a story, almost like a poem. K West is an idiot, his lyrics have no meaning at all, just like 99% of all rappers in the past, present and future.

If you're looking for truly good writing, rap is not the place to look. Even the best of it is quite simplistic compared to a simple mediocre sonnet.

That said, stuff like this I find fun:
The Rubix Cuban's at your door, but I ain't singin' no carols
I'm like Donkey Kong, I got you niggaz dodgin' my barrels
    Don't give a **** where your label's from
We runnin' up in your office, holdin' your CEO hostage with a staple gun
And ain't no stoppin' this don; I got soccer moms
Puttin' glocks in their palms and wildin' out to opera songs
Blow off your brim, turn your fitted to a kufi
I'm like Ricky Ricardo except, "I Love Uzis"
When I'm in the crowd, these rappers are shook
They won't stage dive unless they got a harness with a grapplin' hook
Damn right, my raps are real ill
The Celph Titled talkin' doll says, "Kill, kill"
Oh, you's a tough guy, sayin' that you brawl in these fights?
But you got your nose broken by a white bitch from a volleyball spike
Old timers ask me where I got my pimp game from
'Cause I got 99 bitches and ain't a problem with one

We tend to think of Sisyphus as a tragic hero, condemned by the gods to shoulder his rock sweatily up the mountain, and again up the mountain, forever. The truth is that Sisyphus is in love with the rock. He cherishes every roughness and every ounce of it. He talks to it, sings to it. It has become the mysterious Other. He even dreams of it as he sleepwalks upward. Life is unimaginable without it, looming always above him like a huge gray moon. He doesn’t realize that at any moment he is permitted to step aside, let the rock hurtle to the bottom, and go home.

    Best. Rap. Evar.

They told him don't you ever come around here
Don't wanna see your face, you better disappear
The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear
So beat it, just beat it

You better run, you better do what you can
Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man
You wanna be tough, better do what you can
So beat it, but you wanna be bad

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
    Just beat it, beat it
    Just beat it, beat it
    Just beat it, beat it
    Just beat it, beat it

They're out to get you, better leave while you can
Don't wanna be a boy, you wanna be a man
You wanna stay alive, better do what you can
So beat it, just beat it

You have to show them that you're really not scared
You're playin' with your life, this ain't no truth or dare
They'll kick you, then they beat you,
Then they'll tell you it's fair
So beat it, but you wanna be bad

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it

This is what a lyricist looks like

    On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
    By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
    Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good we'll lay to rest
    Anywhere we want to go

    (chorus)
In your house I long to be
    Room by room patiently
    I'll wait for you there
    Like a stone
    I'll wait for you there
    Alone

On my deathbed i will pray
To the gods and the angels
    Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
    To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
    The sky was bruised
    The world was black
And there you led me on

In your house I long to be
    Room by room patiently
    I'll wait for you there
Like a stone i'll wait for you there
    Alone

    And on I read
    Until the day was gone
    And i sat in regret
Of all the things i've done
    For all that i've blessed
    And all that i've wronged
    In dreams until my death
    I will wander on

In your house I long to be
    Room by room patiently
    I'll wait for you there
Like a stone i'll wait for you there
    Alone

Chris Cornell is a brilliant lyricist/songwriter/singer.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but have you heard Infinite by Eminem? He actually shows quite a bit of talent on that song/album. Eminems new stuff is horrible though. Encore is a prime example of somebody with so much talent some out with complete garbage that's not even worth listening to.

Anyway, I didn't read this whole topic, but I see people are now discussing 50 cent as a rapper. So I figure I'd state my opinion on the matter. His lyrics are terrible written and simplistic, subject matter sucks, full of commercialism, lacks creativity, boring.... shall I continue?

Rap music today is horrible anyway though. It used to actually be about having fun, converying messages, showing lyrical skill, etc. Now it seems anybody with fat pockets and club friendly production can make it big talking about how much cars, girls and crap they have. Don't get me wrong, I love rap music, but the stuff on the radio and TV nowadays is atrocious.

Dannoe.... come on now man. He looks good, but some of my friends are close to his size and condition and would never be confused with anybody on gear.

Keep a few things in mind.. first of all, his skin tone and the fact that he's constantly oiled in the video makes him look large. Also bear in mind that he's always top lit.

I'm definitely not hating on the man, he's in MUCH better shape than the vast majority of people, but for a board focused on bodybuilding, I'd find it a little surprising if 6'0", 205, ~9% is a physique most of us would trade for tomorrow.

These lyrics actually have a point, they tell some type of a story, almost like a poem. K West is an idiot, his lyrics have no meaning at all, just like 99% of all rappers in the past, present and future.
What's the point of the lyrics? It's just a song talking about the differences from before and after the fame...
Before anybody wanted K-West beats, < before he became rich and famous...
Me and my girl split the buffet at KFC. < he ate at KFC, a relatively cheap fast food restaraunt.

What do you say at this time?
    Remember when I was nine?

They want her to live, and she trying

So much meaning... Seriously, you take one word from one line from one song about how he made it, and twist it into a racist degrading remark, then say all rappers are bad... Come on, man. And quit acting as if 2pac was the greatest rapper ever. He was a great, but he's overrated. He's not THE best. Plenty, past and present, that could be put ahead of him lyrically.

Some of you guys appear to have never seen or read any real poetry in your life. Many rappers can rhyme words together just fine, but that's fairly easy to do when you change the way words are spoken or you just completely make them up entirely. If that were the basis for good "rap lyrics", then Dr. Suess would've been the greatest rapper of all time. In any case...a lot of the rap lyrics out there today are completely void of anything remotely intelligent, insightful, or meaningful. A lot of the lyrics sound exactly alike...with all the money, cars, and hoes you can shake a stick at in their music videos. Yes, there are some that venture out into the meaningful territory, but that doesn't seem to be the main focus these days. I think the main focus is "money", not winning any kind of meaningful lyrics award. I don't even know why having meaning is a point to defend for rap. I don't think that's what it's all about anyway. Just enjoy the music you like. Some of the lyrics you guys have claimed as "brilliant" or "meaningful" are some of the most ridiculous jumbled mass of 2nd grade level gibberish I've ever read. Go read some books on classic poetry to get an idea what real meaningful writing is all about. Just enjoy the music, guys. Seriously.

I think Ludacris is entertaining because he just adds humor to all his songs. He doesn't take himself way too seriously. Dr. Dre is extremely talented in the music composing department. Tupac is extremely overrated...as well as Snoop Dogg. That "Drop It Like It's Hot" song...if I hear it one more time, I might break something.

    Anyway...I'm done ranting.

Scarz- best post in this thread.

I love poetry. I love words. I can respect talented prose.

Just because somebody touches on meaningful issues doesn't make their words brilliant. Most of this **** I'm reading above is mediocre AT BEST.

    But whatever.
