The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Argh deadlifts messing up my back routine...Thought on my split !!

Ok... I have recently started deadlifting again on back day of course, however theres one big problem....My friggin grip is shot after finishing deads. I can hardly even grab the bar to do chins / rows etc..meaning my back workout is pretty crap. Now what I am looking to do is do them exclusively but want to avoid as much overlap as possible. I usually train something like this....

    Day 1. Chest and tris
    Day 2. Back
    Day 3. off
    Day 4. Legs
    Day 5. Shoulders and biceps
    Day 6. off
    Day 7. off

Or something very similar as always have to chop and change due to dodgy training partners, Basically I just try to to a 4 day split and avoid overlap wherever possible.

How does this look to you guys ?

    Day 1. Chest
    Day 2. Back
    Day 3. Off
    Day 4. Shoulders and triceps
Day 5. Deadlifts ( possibly some bicep work )
    Day 6. Off
    Day 7. Legs

My only main areas of concern is doing squats 2 days after deads as my erectors are usually shot for a good few days. And the fact that I will be training 3 days on the trot ( after legs ) I have thought about this for a while and this seems to be the best I can come up with.

Anyone else suggest something better. I really want to stick with the deadlifts but they mess the rest of my back work up badly !!

Hmmm was just looking over my usual routine and thought maybe if I skip the bicep work from shoulder day and do deadlifts on day 6 or 7 ???

    Day 1. Chest and tris
    Day 2. Back
    Day 3. Off
    Day 4. Legs
    Day 5. Shoulders
    Day 6. Off
    Day 7. Deadlifts

Looks pretty good to me ????? I`m thinking the bicep work is un-necessary anyway. Anybody ?

Well I guess that pretty much sums it up.

I always said I wouldnt use wraps as I wanted my grip strength to get better but I guess it don`t mean **** if I`m just training for size.

I can't believe I'm saying it, but yea, use the straps on your row/chin movements. Keep them off on the deads and your grip should stay strong.

You could also do deadlifts on your leg day, but I would not add an extra day for them. It would probably just kill your recovery ability.

Whats next Chris, you gonna send people to curves and tell them to start squating with the pussy pad on the bar?

I'd eliminate the shoulder day all together. You train them with chest, again with back, and they are involved in the deadlift. On top of that you are going to train them directly on a fourth day? It just seems like an awful lot of work for such a small bodypart. Indirect work in movements where they are worked heavily such as bench press, rows, chins, deads, does add up. And I agree with what you said about the bicep work.
