    Handling Back to Back Meets?

    All,

    My PL team is really into competing with WABDL, and as such I'm trying to get out to Anaheim for Worlds in November. This means I have to qualify at a meet, and the only real choices I have are July 21st in Lansing MI, or the TN meet on August 11th (i think). Not only is the TN meet a 9hr drive compared with 6.5 to Lansing, but I dont know anyone going either (compared with 5 people to Lansing). So I'd really like to do the Lansing meet if it won't affect too much.

    I just did a meet last weekend, so I was wondering if anyone had advice for getting healed up for this meet. Also, whether I can still expect a great performance or not... I actually am planning on doing two sessions of DL suit practice before the meet. Basically, any comments on this decision that being a newer lifter I might want to know/think about?

    I would just take it easy. Don't expect to get any stronger between now and the 21st.

    Take a week off before the competition and you should be good to go. Don't do that too often though man (compete so close together that is)... It'll start to wear on you

    What I would do is:
    Since your all ready peaked as far as strength goes, take it 'easy' the next few weeks and primarily just work on the 3 lifts. Meaning don't do high rep sets or hardcore auxilliary lifts, just do some single/doubles/triples of bench/squat/deadlift but be 100% sure you'll easily get every lift. Like for singles I'd hit 80% 1-rep max. Just like Deeder said don''t expect any real strength gains, your main goal will be to maintain strength(maybe gain a bit in the process) and not burnout.

    I have to place top 3 in my weight class... I don't think that will be too big of a deal. If I could hit 250/425 I would win I would think. I'd still like to perform well, and I'm hoping to lift in the DL suit for that meet.

    Fury - I've done TN and it's not that big of a meet. You'd most likely qualify there. I don't know bout Lansing, but since you are in a class that's not too populated, I'd think it's unlikely there will be more than 2 other people in your class. I wouldn't sweat it whichever meet you decide to do.

    I would rest this week lift next then another off. You already know your openers so maybe hit some triples and work on form next week and call it good.

    I am not much of a deadlifter but if you want to get two pulls in I would say this Sat and next thursday or friday. I don't think I would pull to heavy though. Just learn the suit maybe several singles at 80% or less.

    If that's the case, I'd say just train normal. It's only a push/pull and you are only doing it to qualify for the big meet. Your training right now is to get ready for the big meet, so don't lose these three weeks. The week of the meet just back off a bit. Say, train on Monday and Tuesday(but nothing crazy) and then rest til Saturday. Hit what you need to hit and get out of there an back in the gym. That's what I'd do.

    It's 3 days after my meet and I've already done 2 heavy workouts and hit PR's in both. I love training, rest is for the weak.

    Ok thanks guys... sounds like I have plenty of time to rest up and get a few last training sessions in.

    As bad as it sounds... I actually like training better than the meets . Can't wait to have a stretch of a few months to make good progress.
