The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

thanks man, I basically quit drinking and am soley focusing on this and school. i eat everything and anything that moves but it's working so! I'm roughly 9 -10 lbs from my goal of 185. From there it's on to 200.

    squats:
    135x5x2
    225x3
    275x1
    ------
    325x3
    325x3

    deadlifts:
    135x5
    225x3
    335x2
    335x4
    335x4

I bought chalk! holding onto deadlifts today was a joke. squats were really ****ing heavy. I need to move my hands out further on them...they put alot of pressure on my reardelts.

Looks good, bud. Chalk makes the WORLD of difference! I don't know how anyone can train without it. I love a wide grip when I squat; so long as you still have a nice shelf for the bar to sit on, make that grip wider! I think I've asked you about this before, but what program are you doing?

my routines is a take on the BGB program where motion is looked at in planes, horizantal and vertical. I try for two days on and aim for two days off for recovery (My partner recovers faster then I do so it's hard sometimes to get both days off).

Day one has 1 push and 1 pull in each plane of motion (horizantal and vertical) for balance and an accessory movement if i feel a need.

Day two is legs and deadlifts to hit the quards, hams, and glutes while rounding out the rest of the back.
    - I try to alternate starting with deadlifts and squats. After reading a few posts I'm going to have a DE and ME day for legs.

ME for deadlifts and squats (alternate which one starts per ME session)
    DE next leg day

As for reps: I have no base scheme of 5x5, 3x5, 3x3. I guess I have an idea going into the day what i'm looking to accomplish but I like to have fun with my reps. Some days ill do heavy trips, or try for doubles or aim for 5's. Either way, which ever rep scheme I pick I try to go above what I did last time or improve some way.

Sounds like an interesting plan with the workout, bro. Those squats of yours are getting brutal. Definitely more for reps than I've ever accomplished. Glad to hear you got some chalk. 405 is gonna be nothin now. Makes a huge difference doesn't it?

Thanks alot guys! this week is going to be a bitch with my final exams. Sorry if i'm not really around the boards this week but ill catch up with everyone as soon as thursday hits lol!

    bench:
    135x8x2
    205x3
    250x2 (PR)
    250x1
    250x2

    pullups:
    bwx25x5x2
    bw+25x4

    incline:
    155x3
    185x3
    205x1
    225x1 (pr)

    seated row:
    160x8,5,7

    wide grip dips:
bwx10x3 superset with oh shoulder press:
    25x10x3

    db row:
    80x5x2

today was much different than i expected, especially with binge drinking last night for the first time in weeks. woke up with a massive hangover but managed to drink alot of water and get food in my system and what not. Hit a pr today of 250x2 which is sick.
I'm currently using a closer grips within the rings..very close to CGBP...it really helps with my shoulder problems and i can really tuck my elbows but i feel like my tri's are doing most of the work so i'm going to be using a widegrip when i do weighted dips to hit the chest.

2 finals this week, kill me.

That's really interesting what you're saying on your bench. I used to always bench with a closer grip and it seemed like I had much better improvements with that grip. I moved it out wide like all the PLers say and I really haven't benched as well since. Not sure if the wide-bench grip is just better with shirted benching or what. What do you think, man? At any rate, that's some really bad ass bench work bro. Super ****ing jealous, lol. You deserve it though, man. Careful on those wide-grip dips. That can really tear the chest and RCs up.

Very nice workout mate, I don't know how you hit PR's on Squats AND Deadlifts in one day, that's awesome. 335 x 3 is a solid PR, what's your 1RM? Also I take it the purchase of chalk has helped you with the DL's? I just got a chalk ball the other day so looking forward to heavy DL's with it.

    Two days ago: DE Style
    bench:
    135x5
    185x3
    205x1
    240x2
    225x4
    240x2

    bent rows:
    back was way to sore

    oh press:
    95x10x3

    pullups superset with dips:
    (bwx5 / bw x 8) x 3

    light shoulder raises:

    one day ago:
    squat: (Full Squats)
    135x5x2
    225x8x3 pause at the bottom

    deadlifts
    135x5
    225x3

    10 minutes of stretch:

    Day One:
I had two days off before this day but I was stuying for finals and pulled an all nighter. I also didn't eat food while studying because I was extremely nervous for this final. Didn't have the energy or drive that i should have. Also because of no rest and poor nutrition my back wasn't recovered at all and I couldn't do bent over BB rows because I couldn't support the weight.

    Day Two:
10 hours of sleep and my lower back wasn't as sore. Stuck with the DE type day. I decided to do a full squat with a pause at the bottom to help out of the hole. By the end of the 3rd set my lower back had a huge pump and was ridiculously sore. Did a few reps of deadlift and had to stop and stretch and rest it. This morning it feels much better, I think just getting some blood pumped into it and what not was extremely help.

Saturday and Sunday are off days for graduation up here and the gyms closed. By monday everything should be 100% with bench on monday. Time to eat like a mad man all weekend with the rents coming up for mothers day.

I'm doing ME efforts one day DE efforts the next, I can't DL and Squat heavy in one session then do it again next time lol to much for my lower back.

Good workouts, man. I think whatever you're doing on that bench has really worked out well for you. Wish we could train together so I could copy your technique on that ****. Take some vids, damnit. Probably smart to take it easy on the lower back if it was hurtin.
