    Italian Meats?

    What's the general consensus on pepperoni, salami, etc?

    I eat it alot and love it, it has low calories high protien but it seems to have alot of salt and cholesterol. Is this alright? My dad is like 50 and he recently had some problem with gout and the doctor told him to stop eating cold cuts. What do you guys think?

    from what I understand salt and cholesterol aggrevate problems in those that already have one, but do not cause them. Personally, I think they are good, but there are lots of people that will disagree.

    If im not mistaken, they arent low calorie(they are fatty cuts I believe) when compared to lean meats.
    Complication breeds desperation.

    Italian Deli meats are VERY high in fat.

    High fat, high sodium, high nitrate, high nitrite, lots of emulsifiers. Not that healthy, but damn tasty as a snack.

    ^ Also, The're high in fat, and its mostly saturated too. some saturated is ok, but there is a lot in Italian meats.

    If your eating "cold cuts" try the chickens, turkeys and low fat hams etc.

    I would honestly stay away from most deli meats. With chicken and turkey breast that you cook yourself, at least you know what you are working with. The types of fillers used in the meat industry is awful these days.
