is gammon an ok protein source? I mean like eating a lot of it, ie: two/three meals a day?

It's just I can pick up 3.5kilos of gammon steak for 5 (which is just over a $ a lb for you yanks :p ).

As far as I've gathered a gammon steak weighing 250g has...

240 kcals
40g protein
0 carbs
8g fat

GAMMON AINT NO GOOD GUYS and Avatar gammon has nothing to do with fish, gammon is a type of thick ham ! Would you stick with ham as your protein source?? Guess no?? also gammon has a relative high ammount of sodium, which ain't good either

Stick with the good ol' meat of course, and other good protein sources.

Gammon is basically pig as the above post rightly says.

I'm not sure, but is pork a complete protein or not? If not, just eat it with something that would make it complete - i dunno what though exactly! Try bread or beans or eat it and drink milk etc...

of course pork is a complete protein. It's not a bad idea to have it in your diet every now and then.

yeah but I was hoping I could get away with eating it al the time, it's like 3x cheaper than chicken.

Hmm, maybe gammon and a smaller piece of chicken, hmmm.

Yates: i wasn't 100% sure. Why don't lifters include it in their diet more? Is it cause of the sat fat?

Pork isn't the leanest of meats and I believe Gammon has a high sodium count. Chicken is a better choice flake, but like I said every now and then won't hurt.

gammon is cured pork. when pork is cured it becomes gammon if its the back or belly it becomes bacon. apart from increase slat level its the same as pork.
for the leaness of gammon it depends on the cut of the pig used but can be as little as 5% fat but up to well over 50% fat depends on the cut. yes its higher in soduim as well. keep to the chicken, turkey or just lean red meats.

cheap meats aren't the best in quality; sausages are cheap but they are hi in sodium, plus they are made from organs (and "filler") which are hi in bad cholesterol and low quality protein
