220? what bodyfat % you got dude?

training like a powerlifter doesn;t necessarily mean you'll look like Ronnie. Years of training and drug use with lots of food and you'll maybe get close to him. remember his genetics are outta sight!

To gain weight you need more calories. Can you not get them from real food - it's better and cheaper than MRPs. Eat more calories than you burn and you should gain weight man. Just don;t eat too many or you'll add fat too.

I'd like to see your training routine. Would you please post it?

Thanks man, and best of luck! :)

I used to have 5 % bodyfat when I was playing basketball in high school, now I have btwn 10-13%-done by my nutrition teacher with the calipers in front of class, too bad only the football players were whistling at me with my shirt off. I am 220 and 6'6" tall.

As for my routine it usually looks something like this:

Day 1:
Always at least 5 min warm up run and stretch
4 sets of each exercise unless I can't move anymore than 3
BACK: usually heavy bent over rows or T bar rows. Sometimes I'll throw in cable rows, but I always do pulldowns in front and behind head.
BICEPS: usually a heavy first set or cheat curls to shock then I do isos normal and incline and then hammers
ABS 3 min

Day 2:
LEGS, to take the stress off of my arms and let them heal
Deadlifts: Stiffleg deadlifts (slight bend in knees of course, man my form here is perfect I always get people asking me and telling me how good I do it) Or going heavier and pulling it off the floor
Calves: one of my weaker points. Donkeys, sleds

Day 3:
Chest: Always one of my stronger points, my traps are my best though
Bench warmup, 225 8 reps, 245 6 reps, 275 2 reps
incline bench or incline free
Decline every other week

Day 4:
OFF, usually I go straight through but from now on this is off!!

Day 5:
Power cleans off floor
Shoulders: military, free weight raises 2 exercises sides and front lifts
Traps: free bar, smith, or free weights high repetitions 12-20 just bc it works for me my traps are ridiculous like 6 inches above collar bone when posed.

Day 6:
Weak point training/ cardio
Biceps, particular left
Set of right chest, right trap (I notice it, no one else does)
Cardio, always running

Day 7:
OFF, try to do something like walk somewhere or swim etc to do a bit of cardio, nothing serious.

I usually have like 4 meals a day and take 2 mrps and 1 hit of protein during training.

Please critique, thanks

Sorry man but that is a particularly dreadful routine IMO.

post it in the training section for criticism.

01-26-2002, 12:00 PM
no kidding, why do you say that?

01-26-2002, 05:23 PM
Training five days a week.

three heavy training sessions on consecutive days.

Abs several times a week.

training one side of your body.

IMO, scrap day six and spread the other days out throughout the week.

Another thing, although not absolutely necessary, is to maybe drop your sets per exercise to 2 or 3 rather than 4.

Taking this advice is totally up to you. In the other post you said you were having good gains so the choice is yours.

Began the Total Rebuild today (Tuesday Jan 29)

Bench press
warmup 135 X 12
225X6 messed this one up, my form was awful good thing i had a spot

Incline chest
55 each X 10
Then added a superset of 35 pound open handed flys X 11reps
35X10 superset open flys

Smith machine incline chest press
(did this bc my form was awful on bench from the week off)

Bodyweight dips 3 sets of 8 reps (223 pounds)

Cable pushdowns straight bar
the entire stack 135 pounds i think 3 sets of 8 reps
plus 2 supersets of 85 pound reverse trip pushdowns

One hand overhead tricep extension
(Man I was tired for this one)
40 pounds X 8 reps
35 X 9 reps
35 X 8 reps

20 reps lower abs leg extensions
2 sets of incline crossovers 20 reps
2 sets of 20 rep incline situps

I think this took less than an hour, had an old friend told me I got huge (always good). What do you guys think of this workout? Keep in mind I had a week off before this

01-30-2002, 04:59 PM
135 X 12
225 X 8
225 X 8
245 X 7

135 X 10
225 X 10
225 X 8
275 X 7

Calves 3 sets seated then left

I'm back up to 223 again and I felt like I was going to pass out in the gym today during deadlifts. I was with my head between my legs during sets to get the blood in my head so I don't pass out. I guess it will take a week or two to get fully back in the swing. I usually do extensions and another calf exercise but I was dead. Overall a good workout. Tried optimum 100% whey and it is good, easier to stomach than designer I think and cheaper too.

02-01-2002, 01:38 PM
Bent over rows
Cable Rows

Superset curls
isolation curls 3 sets

2 sets of heavy abs, plus "helped" some girl with her form hehe

02-01-2002, 01:40 PM
2 more years

02-01-2002, 01:46 PM

Didn't you (on Elite Fitness) recommend 1000 push-ups a day? Maybe someone else, but there's not too many 6'6" bodybuilders who's user name is natural. This is not a flame, just wondering.

02-03-2002, 10:12 AM
No, thats not me. What kind of crack dealer would do 1000 pushups a day?

02-04-2002, 08:53 AM
Glad to hear that There was some guy on there for a while who went by the handle 6ft6in natural (or something quite similar) and advocated 1000 push-ups a day to build up one's body. Naturally he was quite badly flamed, and eventually banned from from the board, for annoying too many members and mods. :)

02-27-2002, 09:02 PM
This thread is not going to be very detailed I think, just more highlights from here on out i think.

03-14-2002, 07:22 PM
I hit 225 the other day so I'm pretty happy

03-14-2002, 07:38 PM
no that was me that recommended the 1000 perday pushups, it was actually working great for a couple months but i just got plain bored of it and on top of that i got banned from elite fitness for talkin about it oh and some smart ass remarks, heres a pic of me a while back ago when i was doing tons of pushups i was more flabby then i believe i was 20 years old 6foot6 245 and natural for life. im in better shape now i dont train that way anymore but similar i do fullbody workouts everyday some days of high reps some low reps. i think people should open up there minds about different training and diet regimens there are alot of different styles that do work

03-14-2002, 07:46 PM
Yo cheeks, you are probably gonna get banned from this board too

03-14-2002, 07:52 PM
no i think they arent so pissy on this board only a few. at elite fitness the word natural lifter totally pisses people off. by the way i saw your pics excellent build bro keep doing what your doing!

03-14-2002, 07:56 PM
wow holy crap man u only been training 2 years?!? excellent. also if you never tried glutamine give it a shot this stuff works!!!!!!!!
ps dont stop your journal

03-14-2002, 08:02 PM
Thanks, maybe I'll add some stuff sooner or later. I've been getting good gains from taking twinlab gainer fuel 2500 1/3 serving size + amino acids post workout. I think I was lacking a lot of carbs/calories. Haven't been getting any sleep lately and only training 3 times in a week so maybe in a few weeks I'll have some solid training behind me, less hectic schedule. Also, have been taking some flax at night.

03-14-2002, 08:03 PM
O yeah, I do take glutamine before workouts because sometimes I don't have the stomach to down a big shake so I just take a few glutamine caps and hit the weights.

Stay off the juice kids

03-14-2002, 08:49 PM
Jesus.... Arnold is one UGLY mutherfucker.

03-18-2002, 02:46 PM
weigh 226 now

03-18-2002, 03:09 PM
Ordered nlarge, designer whey glycerlean, solid protein bars

03-19-2002, 09:46 PM
Did a serious chest/tri workout today

dumbell presses up to 110
incline chest straight bar up to 245 X3 new incline max

Tried the laying down pullover thing with the ez bar and I find it too awkward and difficult for me I think i'm doing it wrong or something. Suggestions?

Took some (1/3) scoop weight gainer powder + amino fuel) before workout so the sugar (dex/malo) would be in my bloodstream midworkout. Post workout a full scoop of twinlab 2500 gainer fuel.

My chest is really damn big now, I need my biceps to match so come friday I'm gonna hit them really hard, don't know what i'm gonna do yet though.

Hey pushup dude, you got some good size, you really should pose in the pic though so you can get some feedback on your symmetry and stuff

03-20-2002, 07:46 PM
I probably weigh 227 now, I am getting some good results from the gainer fuel post workout. My muscles are more full especially chest and my arms are a bit bigger. My abs haven't suffered noticeably so I'm pretty satisfied.

Squats up to 315 X 5
Deads 315X 5
extensions front reverse

post workout 1/3 dosage of gainer fuel mixed with some amino fuel bc i ran out of protein

Had some flax this morning, meals kind of sucked though i'm probably going to add a 4th meal right after i write this

I do it for the fans baby

03-20-2002, 07:49 PM
im 6'5 185 lbs with 13% bf. you must be one big mofo, or im small

03-21-2002, 02:24 PM
I have 10-13% bodyfat, I'm pretty big but 185 for 6'5" is a little light you should be at least 205

03-23-2002, 10:45 PM
My lifts have gone up like nuts since I started getting on the gainer fuel. Like I said a million times I only take the stuff post workout and use flax also now.

Bent over rows up to 245 X 4 new max
Seated cable Rows -entire stack 300 X 4

I did a good set of incline straight bar chest 245 X 4 times the other day also which was a new max

03-24-2002, 09:32 PM
Its kind of funny to see look at my routine i was using before I started learning from you guys, see the top of this thread to see. Now I am doing a good split I think. I would put a rest day btwn chest/legs but schedule doesn't allow it.

back bi

I have been alternating exercises to keep it fresh, like instead of flat bar bench I'll do dumbells one week. I may do leg press instead of squat one week etc. Good idea?

03-26-2002, 04:20 PM
Benched 295 today, new 1 rep max

03-26-2002, 04:34 PM
Your squat and deads suck ass compared to your bench. Nice bench though :)

03-26-2002, 04:42 PM
Thanks much,
You are right, but at my height I'm very careful with my knees. I will hopefully be progressing nicely soon though with squats and deads. I think I can squat 345 or so but I never have gone for it. Tomorrow when I do legs i'm gonna up it a bit and get a good spot. Thanks for motivation;)

03-26-2002, 04:44 PM
I also did 245 bent over rows new max that was last fri forgot to post it i think, o yeah good form too no "humping" like most people do

03-27-2002, 07:13 PM
New max (did 2 reps) for squats @ 365

Right knee was a little sore after, feels fine now.

03-27-2002, 07:40 PM
is anyone following this thread? If so what else do you want to know so we can learn from each other etc

03-28-2002, 07:39 PM
I got up to 230 now, more like 231 but I was dressed up so I think 230 is good. I reached my goal I set for myself when I started this thread when I was 220 which was like 2 months ago.

03-30-2004, 10:41 PM
A little over 2 years later I'm back bitches!

I weigh about 230-232 and am doing some good lifting over the past 2 months or so. I'd say my diet sucks but I'm going to be working on it. I think I'm gonna start this journal up again.

Today I did chest/tri

Chest smith machine press, not sure how much the total weight is but I maxed at 3 X45 lbs plus 25 lbs on each side
Did tricep pushdowns on smith machine up to 4 plates on each side
Smith decline press to 3 plates a few times (seemed like a power outage on this one... thinking I gotta eat better).
Tricep pushdowns and overhead extensions and kickbacks
Incline chest
Situps while trying to pick up a chick (isn't the situp area the easiest place to try to hit on girls?)

Goals: Get up to 240 and huge with good abs, I'll need to cut out some fat though since my diet has been garbage. I'd say I have 15-18% bodyfat right now- needs to be lowered at least 5%. Going to Super market tomorrow with list of bodybuilding friendly snacks. My snacking has been awful!!!! TWIZZLERS AND COOKIES makes for a lazy workout!

03-31-2004, 12:22 AM
welcome back. its nice to see other "tall bodybuilders" out there. im 6'6" and 225. keep up the work, bro

Scott S
03-31-2004, 12:17 PM
Haha.. .did you take two years off lifting?

Good luck getting to 240. At your height, that'll look pretty good.

03-31-2004, 08:05 PM
I was not in a proper routine for about a year and a half, but I was exercising. I've been in a good routine the last 2 months and I got a lot of it back. I'm going to start a better diet tomorrow once I get to the store. As far as if I get to 240 and do it properly it will look good. My bi's and calves need some work if I'm going to pack on that much more size because on someone my height those are the hardest to fill out. Glad to see someone reads this, keeps me focused

Today: off, allergies really bad sneezing all day so taking a break

03-31-2004, 08:20 PM
wow, 2 years old. I remember this one and the now departed mr. buttcheeks. lol

Welcome back and hopefully we can help the with motivation when needed.

04-02-2004, 09:09 PM
Ate better today, snacked on cashews and cranberries tonight. I feel full and better because I don't have that nauseous feeling of eating sweet stuff like cookies. Gave away candy and threw out cookies.
Deadlifts 315 X 8 (i'm getting it back quickly)
rows, pulldowns, and situps

Ran 1 mile, did maybe 12 sets of biceps and 3 sets of tricep extensions and 60 situps

Have had bad allergies with the pollen in air lately so cut these workouts a little short, but did some beyond failure work so it was effective

04-03-2004, 04:06 PM
I weigh 235 now

Today I did Shoulders

Presses to failure 3 sets
3 sets in a row (super set) shoulder extensions 15 lbs 20 lbs 25lbs then another set back down to failure
Cable shoulders and rotator cuff shoulders
Ran 1 mile

04-03-2004, 07:05 PM
The only way to get gains quick is to go beyond failure til the muscle is ready to come off the bone and you want to cry

04-06-2004, 09:06 PM

Here is what I recently ordered to supplement what is hopefully going to be a period of heavy training starting Monday. What timing and usage would you guys use with these supplements?
going to get into some heavy lifting and beyond failure work to build some good mass. I want to size up a few pounds and get leaner too.

Did a back workout today that was all super sets and giant sets. Felt that for the energy level I had that day I got a really good workout and had done better with the giant sets than I would have done with resting between sets. Isopure premade drinks suck.

04-09-2004, 04:17 PM
I dropped down to 230 today I've been cutting a little bit

06-10-2008, 12:17 PM
im 15 yrs old, 6'6", 210 pounds and bout 10-12% Body fat. And addicted to the gym right now, when ur 6'6" it takes alot of work 2 look "big"

06-10-2008, 12:59 PM
Blast from the past!

06-10-2008, 01:11 PM
You can do it man. I'm 6'7" and weight goes on a little faster for tall dudes.
